Are 08 and 09 brakes interchangeable?

Thanks!

Yes, I ordered and installed 08 brake pads on my 09 Platinum. 2010 are different.

Defiantly different. Got almost 900 miles on my 2010 and not a bit of brake dust. A welcome change.

well i don't like brakes on mine, i want more stopping power so i was looking for a big brake kit and i see that stoptech makes one for 04-08 f-150 so that is why i was wondering if that will be work or not... i don't want to spend a few grand on something that will not work... lol thanks again! now i am confident to buy it

I've been impressed with my '09 Platinum's lack of brake dust... the brakes themselves are a little softer than I prefer...

While in some stop and go traffic the other day I noticed a good deal of fade... this was 0-65 and back to 0 very quickly type of stop and go... after a about 4 hard stops I could feel the fade and some odd pulsating the next few times we came to a sudden stop. No I wasn't tailgating... this was just a weird section of highway where everyone seemed to floor it and then jam on the brakes for about 20 miles. I'd let them go and build a gap, get up to 60 or so then traffic would come to a complete stop suddenly... weird...

Trade it in for a 2010. No worries. You will be amazed of the braking it will provide you. Just better to have your seat belt on if in case you have to nail the brake pedal at 70 mph. Had to do it twice when dear or elk crossed the road. I have to some research to do on what changes they made in 2010 model to make this happen. I'm very happy with the brakes on mine.

Upgraded brakes: The only notable engineering change for the 2010 F-150 is an overhauled brake system. It includes new rotors that are 6 percent larger than last year's rotors, plus new front calipers, master cylinder, brake booster and linings. Grueber said F-150 drivers should see improved brake feel, reduced stopping distance and reduced brake dust thanks to the upgrades.

so ok now i wonder if those new master cylinder, brake booster and linings are better than 09s? so are those suppose to perform better? if i say buy a stoptech kit and also put in those things from 2010... would it be worth it?

I think that'd be overkill but if you have money to burn by all means do it and report back.

You all know, ( or some of you do ) that Ford only changed the braking system because they had to change the VENDOR that supplied the braking system for the 09's ( this downturn in the automotive sector because of the economy has forced many vendors to shut their doors permanently. DO you think that Ford changed the ENTIRE braking system to enlarge the rotors 6%. That's like 1/2 inch larger and really doesn't amount to jack squat

And if/after they changed vendors, they seized the opportunity to make the brakes better. In 09, they stuck with mostly the 04 brakes and the F-150 came in second to last in stopping distance in the pickuptrucks.com shootout. Now with all new brakes in 2010 I bet Ford could greatly improve upon that. They probably already had the new brakes scheduled well in advance of the vendor change like they do all of the model year changes. They have to keep it fresh and give people reason to buy the next year model. This year it was brakes, Raptor, Harley and a few other changes. Next year it will the engines and more. Then in 2012, it will be the new model.

I still don't buy a new model is coming in 2012. IMHO with 2 or 3 new engines coming in very late 2010 as 2011 models, I think they'd be fine until 2013s minimum.

I hope for your sake if you are buying a 2011 before the speculated big change in 2012, it doesn't change in 2012, but I think it will because the 09 wasn't an all new truck. I know it sounds hard to believe but it will be time for a new model again in 2012. From the time the 2009 was released in 2008 to 2012 will be 4 years. They said they would upgrade everything every 3.5 years.

Quote from Mike Levine.....
"While there are major changes and upgrades, the 2009 Ford F-150 isn't an all new truck. It's more like a strong kick-off to a three year journey that will totally transform America's best selling vehicle by the time the next-generation 2012 F-150 arrives."

Hey my 04 now has 200,000 miles. I have to wait another 12-13 months to get a 2011 with the new engines... At that point with another 40,000+ miles I can't really complain that I should have waited a little longer. I mean at sometime I have to bite the bullet.

I know Mike made those stmts, but with the 2011 coming out so late in the year... seems unlikely to me that 6-7 months later the all new 2010 will be out.

You mean all new 2012. The site that gave those dates may not be accurate like they were not accurate about the 2009 and 2010. I don't believe it's going to be that long for the 2011. We'll see.
