Well I wouldn't call it not a "value" car necessarily as you get a lot for the price, but they aren't meant to compete with the rest of the Taurus' competitors. They are aimed at the people driving 5-series BMW's, Pontiac G8's, Maximas, etc. You get a sport sedan with a nicer appearance and nicer interior. Not a bad value, but if they keep going up in price they will price themselves out of the market. I had a 91 SHO and loved that thing despite it being a Taurus. I outran many stock 5.0 Stangs with it, all with air-lumbar/side bolsters, premium sound, and a Yamaha v6!

I didn't, I compared a Maxima and Pontiac G8. They are both luxury sports sedans with 300HP or more. G8 is faster than the Maxima, but the Maxima is nicer inside. both have nice interiors and good handling. The SHO fits in with the G8 HP-wise, hopefully it matches the Maxima in quality.
