Yeah half of would be a great deal for a 08. When i was looking it was 8k cheaper to have a 08 lariat with hardly any options and cloth interior or the 09 platinum was 8k more 43k fully loaded. the 08's aint as much of a bargain as they should be. In my area they are all base models what are low on options. Def not worth the asking prices when 09's can be had for such a good deal.

Whatever you do, don't walk into the dealership and tell them that. They'll get your monthly note down to whatever you want....even if it means financing it for 8 years....

Always start negotiating on the purchase price, not ever the monthly note. If you get the purchase price down to what you want, the monthly note will follow. After you've agreed on a purchase price, you need to negotiate the interest rate. Most people don't think to negotiate the interest rate too and it's completely negotiable...unless you're doing the 0% financing....

Good luck and look at them both.

If you need a new pickup, the refreshed '09 is def a very nice truck, and as stated and why, will have fewer probs as most of them were worked out either on the '04 or other FMC vehicles beforehand.

Then again, they are doing great deals on the 08's around here. Neither dealership near me has had any '09's to speak of and my interest hasn't been all that high to go seek one out since they look so similiar to what I drive now; but they have plenty of 2008's on their lots still, even some of those Mark LT things. In my area they are also offering 2 years of sat radio free with an '08.

Check 'em out and decide, either way it'll be a big upgrade for you! Just remember what it's like to have big monthly bills coming in for years to come. Hopefully a lot of American's nowadays have realized it isn't wise to have debt, unless that debt is truly necessary (ie mortgage, medical expenses, etc). Going from a '97 model to an '04 model is pretty nice though...

"A truck like this, isn't built in a factory. It's built in the farms and fields, concrete streets and crowded construction sites that map the landscape of an entire country. Because when Ford builds the new F-150, there are promises to keep. And only one truck, earned the right, to be the Next F-150." -America's Truck, 2004 Ford Motor Company commercial

Great info from all, thanks - my faith in the membership of this site has been restored from where this thread was earlier on Monday! The goal, as Sackett noted, is to get the best deal I can and keep the payments to the shortest reasonable time as possible. I actually know someone who told the dealer that their payment could be no more than $XXX / month and the dealer, of course, made it happen. Unfortunately the guy was paying his loan off for 7 years - wonderful stuff!

I'm currently planning on going Wednesday to a dealership in the area to look at a 2008 Lariat I found online in the inventory on their lot. I will definitely discuss the price and financing/interest rates available with them as well as check out what a comparable 2009 would cost (same terms of course). That'll give me some good info to start. And if the deal on the 2008 is right, then I'll likely go for it. Otherwise, I'll see what the deal is on the '09's and go through the process with that truck.

Fun stuff to do! And again, thanks to all who have helped and made some good suggestions.

Good luck. It sounds like you have a good gameplan. Let us know what you end up getting.

As an owner of an 04, 05 and 06, all with the 5.4L and 3.73LS rear, I would go with the 09 over the 08. Just drove a black loaded 09 FX4 w/ 3.73 locker on Wednesday while getting the oil changed on the Edge. ( buddy is the gm at our Ford dealer ) and put 23 miles on it. Very nice truck, nice job Ford. The 6 speed helps in that the truck always seems to have the right gear to keep in the powerband. However, my .02 here guys, it is still lacking any midrange power ( sounds strained when you get on it ) and I see plenty of work for the Troyers, VMP and PHP folks in the upcoming year selling the set of ***** that Ford neglected to put on these great trucks. And I shudder to think how bad the SFE model would be, you guys will be all over the tuning board. I do not use the trucks for work, just basically a weekend warrior with home remodeling, tow an ATV, haul a few bloody whitetails in the bed, I would sacrifice some of the so called capacity for a better power train setup. These, in stock form, are just too slow to be my daily driver. Come on Ford, I'm bored with this same old 5.4L setup.

Hmmmm......

I think the 08's look way better than the 09's.

And when somebody said, you might get like $6K to $9K off of the 08', as compared to the 09', I think that guess is really light ! Not only might you save close to that amount right up front, from the rebate, but the base cost of the 09' will also be a few thousand more......

Not to mention, your in a position right now, to where you can tell the dealer, "Your losing money ? Great ! Keep the darn truck on your lot, and lose even more" ! Or give it to me for the 'stupid low price' I'm offering to give you. It's not like they have buyers beating down their doors right now. Then give em' your # and walk out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But with all of this said, its getting pretty late in 08', and they might not really have anything left over that you would want to buy. Could be just left over scraps by now.
Peace,
Fish
You need to look and compare the two trucks very well. The 2009s are 2008s, just better looking, bugs worked out, 6spd trans, no more V6s, probably more comfy and $15k more than the previous models.
So once you do that, think of it, which would you like? and is your credit excellent? Go for the '09. Rather save some and still end up with a very very nice truck with alot of customization parts out in the market? Go for the '08. Either way you'll still be happy, especially with the new generation body vs your current one.
2000 Supercrew?? I thought they were introduced as 2001s. Or do you mean it was an '01 that you bought in 2000?
So, I've spent most of this week working on this whole project and having fun doing it! After checking out what's available with all of the current incentives that Ford is offering, I'm looking to go with a 2008. Drove both the '08 & '09 and man they are some nice trucks! Definite improvements over my 2001, no doubt, and the '09 is a really sweet truck. I'm working with a dealer now to find me an '08 that I'd like and so far it looks pretty good. If all goes well I'll be getting into a loaded King Ranch or Lariat and will do so for much less than I paid on my 2001! I should know more by midweek, hopefully.
Keep you posted.
I think you're going the right way with the 08. You can get most of the same mechanicals (engine and 4X4 system) and all the comfort features for pennies on the dollar there. I'm kicking myself for not getting 4WD for example and I could get that for $5K less than I paid right now on my '08.
If you go for the 09, you're going to be paying top $ for much lower equipment levels (despite all the dealer claims about how 6 speed tranny cures cancer, airbags save the whales, depreciation difference will pay you to drive the truck, etc.).
IF YOU HOLD ONTO YOUR TRUCKS, THEN GO FOR THE '08 AND COUNT YOUR SAVINGS FOR YEARS AFTERWARDS!
You can get much more 2008 truck for your money. We're talking a fully loaded 2008 Lariat for $10K less than a basic optioned XLT 2009. It's a no brainer really...
I got my 2008 last week for about $23k. Sticker was about $34k, just an XLT cloth, but 5.4, 3.73ls, and 4x4 which were the 3 main options I cared about. The 2009's are sweet, and if money was no object I'd be driving one. But they were in such a rush to get rid of the 2008's they were even willing to give more on trade for one of them than the 2009's.
A couple of months back I tried to take advantage of the fire sale on the '08 trucks and upgrade from my '04, which I loved. The prices were smoking hot, but there were no matching vehicles to be found. All the Lariat SCabs 4x4's were gone and that's what I wanted. SCrew's everywhere, and selling for dirt!
After 7 F-150's in a row, I too was tiring of underperforming powertrains. Loved the rest of the truck, but I have strayed to another brand for the first time ever. While my new truck has some strong points, I still miss my slow old Ford. Something tells me that I will return eventually.
I hear ya on this one, but I've only had 4 F150's in a row ( the 93 is my beater, will never get rid of her ) and this time I am taking my time and have driven all but one of the competition. I'm buying powertrain performance this time around, since each 1/2 ton out there more than exceeds my capacity needs. Like I said in previous posts, I would trade some capacity for performance since I really do not do any off roading worth mentioning here and just like driving a truck as a daily driver.
