If they put the GT40 engine it the price will be so high most people wont be able to afford it. I like the set up now, plenty of power and a decent price...Not sure of the price for the Dodge but I would imagine it is way more than the current Lightning

About twice as much.....$60,000. And thats sticker price....by the time they add dealer mark up because of "limited availablity" (500 trucks total) it will be $70,000+.

In all seriousness it will be an awsome truck but it will also be priced so high not many peoplewill be able to enjoy them like they do with the Lightning.....which is too bad.

Read the Lightning boards for more detailed info. But as far as I know I ehard it is a 2005, 5.4 24 vavle I think with a twin screw SC. 500hp stock. and should be priced still near 33-35k

Don't ya just love it...

When people try to pit a non-existent, untested gleam in some engineer's eye with...well...anything real? And don't talk to me about "concept" cars.

"Oh, yeah?? My truck -- which hasn't been built yet and won't be for OVER A YEAR, if they don't scrap the project -- will beat your Lightning any day of the week...as long as that day falls around February...of 2004. So there!!!"

Sure, the thing has potential, but not a one has rolled off the line. Speculation about a design is fun, but putting your hands on a REAL steering wheel and stepping on a REAL gas pedal and seeing the CURRENT Dodges struggle, unsuccessfully, to keep up? Well, thats just reality.

I'm sure similar things have been said countless times in the past, and the arguments are all the same. I guess I'm in just one of those moods.

Well...you better be rich as hell to buy yourself a 55k-60k truck. You spend 60k on a dodge...I'll spend 40k on a Ford...and we can take it to the track!

Hey, I say give Dodge and/or Chevy a chance to be in the spotlight with a "muscle truck". Ford has reigned superior in this class for several years. Even against that big block truck someone had, once. Let people think that they have the fastest truck, so that when I get my '05 Lightning I have someone to race!

Won't it be cool to have the smallest dissplacement, the smallest pricetag and the smallest quarter mile times?

I'd like to think that Ford has us covered on this one!

Dont forget about the GMC Syclone. In stock trim it was still faster than and stock L out there. It ran 13.2-13.5 and had 1.8 60' times. And priced at 25K in 1991. STILL the "QUICKEST" production truck made.

I say quickest cause the L will outrun it on the topend giving the Lightning the right to the fastest production truck.

Wasn't the Cyclone, a version of the S-10 ???? If so then you are comparing apples to oranges. Add the needed weight to put it into the Lightning's weight catagory and then see who is the fastest.

From what I have heard Eaton has entered into a lincence agreement with Lysolm to use there rotor packs in upcoming products. So it looks like the next generation Lightning will have a twin screw Eaton/Lysolm blower on it. Either with 3V or 4V heads.

Hopefully they will use stronger connecting rods, LOL

With regards to the V10's in the F150's ... it probably won't ever happen unless someone other than Ford does it. JMC was looking at this option on his truck and was told by a member that has friends in Ford that the engine / tranny combo is too heavy for the light-duty trucks. You would have to do alot of upgrading on the front suspension in order to carry the bigger motor. Ford will probably go with the V-8 and then do alot of work to it to get the HP & TQ that they want. With the 3-valve motor making 300 HP estimate and then SVT does all of their little mods AND if it is true that they add the twin-superchargers. Ford should have no problem hitting the 500 HP mark. Then you drop that in a truck which as far as I have seen is going to the lightest on the street for performance trucks should have no problems taking them them stock on stock. But we all know that they don't stay stock for long.

Don't expect the Lightning or any of the other reg cab F150's to be around the same price as the 99-03's since Ford announced they will no longer have 2 door regular cab F150's...they will have 2 full door's and 2 mini one's, they said this would also hike up the price some.

I think that ford should put a ken belle on the lightnings. Those are some good superchargers.

And don't forget....

The Syclone couldn't haul a bag a marbles or tow a wheel barrow full of inflatable bananas.

The Lightning can haul butt and a buttload while towing the regular complement. My point is the Syclone pretty much gave up its "truck" capabilities to be the quickest "truck" around. The function of a sports car packaged in a truck-like shell. The Lightning retained most of what makes a truck a truck, so Ford can in good conscience say, "The fastest production TRUCK in the world."

Does anyone know the expected hauling and towing capabilities of the Ram SRT-10? I fully expect someone to say, "If you spend $50K for a truck...why would you even think about using it as a truck?" My answer...then spend $50K on a FAST CAR!!!
