Rusted valve cover bolts

I'm going to tackle the phasers in the near future but my valve cover bolts disturb me. Has anyone successfully used a different bolt other then new original ones. Suggestions? Thanks

Just go to the Ford Parts counter and ask for them. They should have some if not they can order them.

No thanks. Ford wants $10 for 2 COP bolts so I can only imagine what these would cost. This seems to be a pretty common problem in the northern states

As bad as those fasteners look, I can pretty much guarantee you that aftermarket / hardware store fasteners have nowhere near the corrosion resistance of the OEM fasteners. Sure you can get them for a lot less, but the lack of corrosion resistance is one reason why they're so much cheaper.

Have you actually asked a dealer how much they are? If you do, get a part number and call Tasca.

I haven't but I will tomorrow to humor myself. I was hoping someone used aftermarket stainless fasteners or something similar. I actually used stainless bolts for my COPs when I did the plugs since mine were also rusted. I bought them from Lowes for under $10

Nope, those are grommets, not bolts. #8 in the diagram.

Yup, the grommets and bolts come together. I've ordered them several times now.

Okay, MSRP at your local dealer should be $7.95.

Thanks guys! Do you know if the bolts are part of the grommets? I've seen videos where it looks like the bolt stays with it.

The grommet can be removed, but the tin holder remains on the bolt. It might be peened or punched to stay on, never really looked that close as to how.

Awesome! Thank you. I think I'll just breakdown and order all new valve cover fasteners.
