Brake Lights Staying On

Not the dash light, the rear brake lights, all three. Did a search but nothing helpful popped up. Parked the truck at work and an hour later someone told me my lights were on. I was checking the sensors on the brake pedal when I heard a clicking under the dash and the brake lights went off, then a minute or so later it clicked a couple more times and they went back on. Is there a relay or solenoid that may be faulty? Any help is appreciated.

I'd check the brake pedal switch more closely, It's the one on the right side of the pedal, the one on the left is the cruise deactivation switch.

If it's the switch here's a link to the best deal you'll find on an OEM replacement, http://www.tascaparts.com/oe-ford/4l...=4L3Z*13480*AA

Thanks for the reply. When you say on the right side, do you mean looking at it from the side, so the sensor would be on the front of the pedal same as the brake foot pad? There are two sensors I can see with a quick look, the lower one has a cable that goes to it which I think is the cruise and there is another above that, higher up on the brake lever, but I haven't pulled that yet to see if it goes off. I plan to look a little closer at it at lunch. The weird thing is that the lights are going on and off at seemingly random intervals. They'll be off for a minute or two and on for a few minutes.

If you have a trailer brake controller installed, try disconnecting it and see if the problem goes away. I have a friend with a cheap brake controller in his Durango and had the same issue. Turned out to be the trailer brake controller. Probably didn't help that he didn't have it actually mounted; it was laying loose and probably getting the beat up.

If you don't have a trailer brake controller, the brake light switch is the likely culprit. They're very cheap to replace.

Thanks I'll check that too. Really starting to think this truck is a lemon. More stupid stuff has gone wrong with this thing since I got it almost 2 years ago.

The one marked 13480 is for the brake lights, the 9F924 is for the cruise.

Thanks, brought the truck to a buddy who was a ford tech and he's looking at it for me. He said the brake switches looked good. He was going to look at the SJB for any water intrusion as we had pounding rain here yesterday too.

This was the culprit, thanks for the heads up!

No problem. Out of curiosity, what trailer brake controller were you using? I'm running the Curt Discovery brake controller and it's been great.

The one that went bad was a Hayes "Engage" that came with the truck when I bought it. I picked up a Prodigy P2 to replace it.
