Exclamation Engine Running like crap after degrease

ok so yesterday I used degreaser to clean the engine bay then hosed it off. started the truck and everything seemed fine. parked it over night and then this morning started driving it and everything seemed normal until I gave it some throttle. it started to bog and now it seems to keep doing it and the engine is running like **** and idling bad. do you guys have any suggestions as to what to from here? im sick to my stomach!

water seeped into the plug wells and is now shorting out the cops.....take cops and boots out and dry out the plug wells...once water causes cops to misfire the cops are toast....going to have to invest in a new set...

Had that happen to my 2000 F150, but was able to dry the coil and it ran fine. Might get lucky, but replacement coils are not that much.

Agreed. All I ever do to the engine bay is wipe it down with a damp rag.

Sounds like you got your coils wet.

Cops are Coil On Plugs. Pretty much the same as what most cars have, just a little different and little different name.

I'm just paranoid about doing it, for reasons like this, and I never have my hood up unless something's wrong or I'm up to some mods. So it's alright with me if it's dusty. I'm glad the dealer I bought it from didn't clean it when they got it in either.

If you have to ask what a COP is my advice would be to just take it to a shop to have the work done!

ok.... sorry this is my first v8 engine and the terms are different for the engine parts from what I am use too. bought the truck last august and never had an issue with the "cops" so never needed to know the terminology. but I am sure I know far more about a Honda motor than you and I do my own work , you have to start somewhere.

I ordered these..... hope they get the job done. auto zone wanted like 35 bucks for one?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261210134719...84.m1439.l2649

so is there anything I should know before I do this install? I need grease I believe? and I also remember reading that the spark plugs are a biaaa to change? not sure to expect here. all I know is it looks like the rear passenger one looks like a pita to get too.

Good luck with those. Most aftermarket cops are a crap shoot. Best look into motorcraft or Visteon. All others are just sub par.

... you mean reward ford for their pizz poor design by buying more of the same failure prone stuff from them

yeah , that will make them hurry right up & fix the issue

all it would take is a new boot design with a gromit at the top that covers the hole and the coil nests down into to hold it tight in place when ya tighten down the coil bolt

but as long as all you guys swear by buying more ford coils there is never going to be a reason for them to change the part

loseing money ... that will get them to do something differently

Good luck with those cheap Chinese cops - the only cheapos I trust are these:

The owner has an account on this forum if you have problems.

You have a 3 valve 5.4? 2 piece spark plugs that like to break, better have a Lisle extraction tool available.

There is a reason why we call those eBay ones cheap Chinese coils.. You get what you pay for.. Motorcraft cops were still going strong on my 02 when I sold it at 150k. I don't call that pizz poor. And that things had a mud bath multiple times..

You can buy the cheap cops if ya like. I'll stick with what's proven.

On a side note on engine cleaning, I power wash mine once a year, often in spring. I use a white tip nozzle which is a pressurized mist. I avoid the overhead engine such as intake manifold and such, never had an issue. Rinsing the engine with a hose isn't a good idea. Allows for too much heavy water to settle. The high pressurized mist blasts the grime down and leaves a misty wet dampness.

I do this with the engine running also to help dry, and I avoid the common sense things like altinator, battery, and computer.
