Lifting My 08 F150

Okay. I'm new to forums and can't get the search thing down to find what I want.
I am new to lifts. I wanna lift my f150. I've been looking at 4" to a 6" lift. I kinda settled on the 4". Being in the Military I do not know what I will have to park. I'd still like to get in parking garages. I know I can run a 35x12.5 tire. I plan on running a 18x9 rim. with somewhere around a 4.7-5.0 backspacing. From what I have read that will work. I know I will have to cut the valence. Which won't be a problem as i plan to run some Ironcross replacement bumpers. My main concern is, How much rubbing will i have after that? I know i will have to cut some of the inner fender. But how much? Will I have any problems only going with a 4" with the tires rubbing the cab any?
All comments are welcome. I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

You may not have any rubbing issues at all. I know guys with a level that are running 35s. No experience wih it yet. Be warned, I started wih a level now want a 6in lift. If you are even thinking about a 6in I would just go with it from get go. So you may need to walk a little further to get to work. It's a small price to pay you ask me. Lol

Some good info for you: https://www.f150online.com/forums/su...tions-etc.html

With those wheel specs, I wouldn't anticipate any rubbing at all. I do say to go for the 6" though if you're considering both. Lift is a drug for a lot of folks. 4" can look better in my opinion, but if there's even a 5% chance you'll want more height in the future, go with the 6".

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. What would be a good lift brand? I have come to find out, not many people even make a 4in anymore. I've found around 3. Mostly all 6in lifts.
I think I will start with a 4''. I just want it to look good. I don't plan on doing to much off roading. Maybe a little mud here n' there.

That's the problem! You'll want a 6" later haha. I do think 4" lifts look the best, but I would be a lift addict. But almost any lift is fine. The Rough Country (RCX) is fine, but may not be a true 4", so it's like a 2.5" lift and a 1.5" level in one as far as front end angles are concerned. That's fine except that height can't be added later. Their 6" kits are like that, but now sure about their 4" kits. Zone are the same way. Jumping to a 6" kit would open the options up.

If you are going to "start with a 4 in" you might as well just go ahead and spend the little extra and get a 6 in. Otherwise you'll probably look at it in about 6 months and wish you had! Then you'll be stuck spending more to get the extra 2 in! Like KMac said, just about any of the 4 in lifts should be good for your needs. The 6 in isn't much more however!

An RCX 4" will run like a true 4" lift.. and RCX 6" will run like a 4" with a 2 in leveling kit.

I recently contacted RCX in regards to this. The only difference between the 4" and 6" are the strut spacers and rear blocks. Everything else is the same.

Thanks. This was my suspicion, and that it's how they save money. Good to know!

6" Fabtech is what I'll be getting. No front spacer with it. Stock coil on extended length shocks.

my numbers might be off a bit, but that is the general idea.

If one was simply looking for an inexpensive 4" lift RCX would be the way to go.

Infact my goal is to buy the 6" RCX lift, ditch the 6" spacers and use a 4" Bilstein Strut in its place. Giving me a 4" front and a 5 to 5.5" rear lift all with the leveling kit angle issues you'd get by cramming a 6" spacer using only 4" drops. At least that is my therory. I'm not entirely sure its that simple. But it seems to be! I am not exactly sure what the RCX drops achieve in measurement?

RCX is a true 5" drop down bracket for the 6" kit

Thanks for the info fine_style,

So RCX's 4" kits use a 5" drop down... suppose the CV agle would be pretty flat this way.. Perhaps I'll piece together a 5" lift using a 1" spacer onto the 4" bilstein strut? I'm not interested in a 6" lift anymore.

Fine_style, why do you think or how do you know that? RCX themselves made it seem like they make one crossmember for both lifts, and 5" would be a lot for a 4" lift.

A knowledgeable Rough Country employee should be able to clear that up and know the exact measurement.
