New tires (pics)

I went up an inch and got LT265/70/17 Cooper discoverer AT3's in the 6ply load C 50 psi range. They ride so much better than my previous Firestone Destination AT 245/70/17 P metric tires. I really do not understand why all the tire shops tried to tell me they'll ride rough and Id hate them. The shop even set them at 42 psi. I know they're not load E so they'll have a nicer ride, but still, I'm extremely impressed with the LT tire. Its a drastic improvement in ride quality. The tires have a super deep 17/32 tread.

The truck has 4x4 coilovers up front and 2.5 inch blocks in the rear. I had oem 2" blocks (for sale in classifieds) and I only had 1.5 inches of rake when I added the coilovers. I didn't like the look when I had weight in the bed so i swapped them out for the 2.5" blocks. I may even switch to a 3" block but I'm not sure yet. I currently have exactly 2 inches of rake unloaded.

Looks great! I remember a while back you were having an engine leaking issue how did you make out with that?

Thanks!

The ford dealer was wrong. I didn't have any leaking head gaskets. Got a second opinion. When the mechanic noticed oil on a harness above the head gaskets, he traced it back to the intake. It was indeed leaking above the head gaskets and just following them down. That said, it was fixed for $150 and all is well.

Nice, your truck is way too well taken care of to be having leaking head gaskets! Glad it was a simple fix!

Thanks so much! And loving these LT tires. I really don't get it, but the ride improved a lot.

Sometimes tires can just do the trick! Today I put new Michelin Defenders on my Crown Vic, the thing rides better than a Cadillac now! Lol

I just got these a few months ago. 285/70/17 10ply. Mine ride pretty good thus far. They didnt as much when they had 70psi in them!!! Felt like I had bricks in the tires. At 50psi they ride pretty good for what they are.

Nice! I'm thinking about the Hankook Dynapro ATM for my next tire. I just put a set on my sons Explorer and really like the handling and look of the tire. They have a deep tread pattern as well (which I need with 2wd!). I will check into those Coopers too. Did you do new shocks in the back when you added the 2.5" blocks? I've got the 2" OEM and a 1.5 AS level in mine. With the weight of my cap I suppose I'm loosing 3/4" of rake so may go up to the 2.5" as well.

What tire and size are you running now? Definitely check out the tires I got. I've put only 300 miles on them but they feel great. I thought the ride improvement was due to the tire (I'm sure it partially is), but I also think it has to do with these tires are max 50 psi and I'm running them at 42. My old ones were max 40 psi and I ran them at 40.

And a 2.5" block would look great on your truck. Do you currently have the oem 2" or oem 1 5/8"?

I may stick with the 2.5 as exactly 2" of rake is how they come from the factory. If I added the 3" I'd look like an 04 - 05.

Thanks! I wasn't even looking at cooper until I found out the Goodyear wrangler silent armor were discontinued. I found them last minute and am glad I did.

I believe I have the 1 5/8", bought them here on the forum from another member. I noticed when turning into a sloped drive approach, depending on speed, it seems the rear shock over extends and can hear a clunk. So, I'm thinking if I do go taller I will go ahead and put longer shocks on the rear. Or keep as is until I need shocks and do a taller block then.
I have the same size tires (265/70/17) on my truck, but passenger rated. I don't want to regear, so will keep my next ones the same size. I had the dealer take off the original 235/75/17's when I bought it.

Wolverine, Sounds good. I think the 2" or 2.5" blocks would look better. I still have the 2wd shocks with the 2.5 blocks and I haven't noticed anything weird back there yet haha. I'm going to replace them soon, I just keep forgetting.

Darren, Thanks man! Sorry for the dirty pics, almost offensive huh? haha. I cleaned it up a couple days ago, here a few from todays drive. I stopped using wax about 6 months ago and now just use Liquid Glass cause it lasts so much longer and is the easiest stuff I've ever used.
