That's just weird. I hate to mention it, but is it possible driving style could contribute to it? I try to keep my foot out of the carpet...

It's ok! I mentioned it haha. I bought the long tubes so I could hear 'em, and I make sure that I do. But a good friend of mine has a 2006 identical to mine, but mostly stock with 180k miles, and he drives the absolute **** out of it and gets 15+ mpg every time.

07 crew 4wd, 20x9s 33x12.5 Toyo M/Ts, 89 octane custom tune, stock intake amsoil air filter, stock engine, 3.73s, aftermarket custom 3" exhaust, 117k miled original plugs begging to be changed, and I live in a various hilly terrain. Avg mpg is 15.4.

.

Do you feather the throttle like myself? I try to never break 2000rpm when I'm driving the truck all week. Nor do I try to break 55mph. I leave 10mins early to achieve this, and let people pass if they are in a **** fit hurry. I do the same with my car and get 34mpg avg. I believe between top tier quality gas, and a feather light throttle, not to mention fully maintained from tire pressure to engine oil & fuel filter, good mpg is all in the control of the driver.

I am reasonable on acceleration, and try to roll up on lights so I can catch them when they change. I don't avoid going over 55 though. I am no speed demon these days, but 75mph on the interstate is legal and reasonable, if not prudent between H town and the big D... Don't wanna become an 18 wheeler's hood ornament.

I should mention I use cruise control whenever, wherever I can...

My plugs have 8k miles on them, but I don't drive like a grandma! When being conscious of it, I don't break 2k rpm, but you've got to understand how tempting the long tubes make a 3k rpm pull. I drive 65-70 in a 65 and 75 where that's the limit. Don't like going any faster than 75 for an extended period, and find myself going 70 a lot. My philosophy is that the mileage is always going to suck, so I'd might as well enjoy it. With an eco car as a second vehicle, I'd drive that much more conservatively. But, it would make me drive my truck harder!

My truck is the only thing I spend a lot of money on, and the only thing that I'm not always worried about cost with. Everything else, and I'm the stingiest bastard you've met.

Plan on keeping my 07 until the wheels fall off or some idiot decides it's time to buy me a new one. I bought it brand new right after the 08s came out. I just rolled 50K so I think I have a lot of life left in her. She is my daily driver that I will tie off road when time permits but deployments and living close to work have kept the miles low.

More pics are in my profile.

Planning on keeping mine. Bought my 04 in 2008. Its my 3rd vehicle so i don't do too many miles in it, it is purely a toy. That has its benefits and cons. the fuel costs are low but the fact it can sit for a while in the UK weather doesn't always do it good.

she's about to turn 100k miles so i have some work to do but i actually enjoy that side (ex techie that is now a desk jockey). The hardest point is finding the parts i want and need for decent money here in the UK.

Wow, I'm pretty sure I still get factory mileage on my truck, 17/20

I drive the **** out of it too.

I have gotts intake mod with a k&n, 3" magnaflow back after the "y", low pro tires and an old superchips programmer that I got for $100

I always use the same gas brand when filling up and try to change my fuel filter every other oil change... maybe I just got lucky with the 4.6L mileage?

I think the biggest thing is that yours is sitting on the pavement. That, and your small (28.7X10.8") tires. My truck only ever gets Chevron or Shell

Well I bought my 04 Lariat in May 2010 with 36,000+ miles and now 3 years later with 95,000+ miles and my first mayor work was in 2011 when I replaced shocks, lower ball joint, outer tie rods, sway bar link, on December last year installed the hub conversion kit and had to replace 3 out of 4 calipers and in may this year rebuilded the transmission and the same week I had her back from the tranny shop had the spark plugs replaced ( and just one broke and thank god it was the first one on the left side) and now she is parked at my house because I bended a little with a concrete sidewalk the part of the chassis that holds the lower control arm was bended a little on the right side, but after all that Im not replacing this truck for atleast 10 years so im in for the long haul, Long Live the Ford trucks

Bought my '77 in 1986 with 35K on it, still have it at 105K.

Bought my '07 in 2009 with 24K on it, still have it at 43K.

I'ld sell either if someone wanted to buy one .... but I'm content to keep them.

Special-ordered my XLT short bed regular cab truck with the 5.4 engine in May of 2005 -- it has just a shade over 3000 miles on it as of right now. The more time goes on, the more I think the '04-'08 bodystyle will go down as one of the most attractive Ford has made! I'll be keeping mine until they scatter my ashes on the rocky shore of a northern Minnesota lake.....

You special ordered yours. When I bought my 05 in November of 05 I told the sales guy I wanted a reg cab xlt with a V8. Well they had only 3 reg cabs left a STX a XL and the XLT I bought. The XL and STX had the little wimpy 4.2 6 bangers in them I told the sales guy no way on those 2 ended up with a 5.4 reg cab I got now. I have just over 142250 miles on it as of now. Still runs good and plan to keep it for a while yet.

Yeah -- when I ordered mine the only regular cab trucks I could find anywhere in the Houston area all had the six bangers in them. The first time I drove a regular cab truck with a V8 was the day I drove mine home from the dealer six weeks later! I knew I wanted to biggest engine in the smallest body configuration, so there was never any doubt in my mind which way I was going to go.....
