Impacted 5.4 3v Plugs out!

Decided I was'nt going to mess with any pre-treatment to do the plug change as a lot of people broke them doing that anyways.
All I did was run the truck to operating temperature, pulled off the boot when it cooled it a bit, vacumed out the hole, sprayed some penetrating lube and then immediatly impacted out the plugs with my 18v DeWalt impact.
I did have 1 break but it was the 6th plug and I feel it only broke cause at that time the engine was too cold...,truck had been sitting for almost 3 hours. I then warmed the engine back up and the last 2 came out easily.
Truck is a 2004, original plugs, 121,000 miles.

Glad to see it was done with a cordless impact. I was going to try that, glad to see you had such great success.

Such a super idea!

I find my DeWalt 18v impact driver indispensable and bulletproof.

I know, when I took it out I was like oh damn!, that could've sucked big time.

Did you end up having to take the heads off or get lucky with a magnet?

114k here, probably going to be a couple thousand miles more until I can comfortably tackle this.

I did pretreat mine but I used the impact with warm engine and all 8 came out just fine. Then helped a buddy do his ang got all 8 out again. Good thing about doing it this way is you don't have to change the oil afterwards.

I guess I'm having a "senior moment" just now .....
..... but why would you have to change oil after plugs the other way?

.

Heavy doses of carb cleaner, etc runs down into cylinders and get into the oil.

My buddy that's a Ford mechanic did mine and didn't even mess with presoaking them. Said it doesn't help. Used a regular impact and got all 8 out no prob. Then again I have an 06 with only 45k on it, and decided to do it now before they go worse. The carbon buildup wasn't even that bad. Took longer to remove fuel rails and pcm than to change the plugs. Glad Im good now for many years to come.

I understand removing the PCM...but the fuel rails? I didn't touch mine and got all 8 out.
