should i buy or not? used truck
should i buy or not? used truck
hey every one im new and looking for my first used truck. i am currently looking at a 2005 f150 quad cab fx4 4x4 5.4l triton with 178,000 km on it. i was hoping if you guys can tell me if you think the kms are to high or not. do you think the truck would have alot of life left?
Its not super high mailage (kms) but there are plenty of issues to look for. If its in your budget Id look for a new body style. It will probably be lower mileage and the cabs are bigger and nice. Also, the 6 speed transmission makes a world of difference.
OTOH- if you like the truck you are looking at, and it hasnt been abused, it should be strong for another 150-200 thousand km with good maintenance. Im not sure on the conversion to miles, but I'd check to see if the plugs have been changed, and other little things like ball joints and the transmission. Also, if you're up north (im assuming you are) check underneath for any rust issues that cant bee seen from the "good" side.

I have almost that amount of MILES on my truck and never had a hiccup. Just normal wear issues like hubs and brakes.
I will drive it until it hits 300K miles and then look for a new truck. Next truck will be a 2008-2010 F250 Diesel FX4 with a manual gear shift.

you are not getting a lot of response because you are asking people to predict the future. And you are providing very little and very inaccurate information to go on.
You are looking at 2005 F150 with 110,604 miles.
You say its a "quad cab"... Ford does not make a "quad cab" - its either a SuperCrew or a SuperCab.
The 2005 F150 should have the 3 valve 5.4L engine. Not the 2V "Triton" engine.
Have you seen maintenance logs on the truck?
What are they asking for the truck?
The truck could die tomorrow, or it could go another 100K miles with no major issues.
Personally, I would never buy a truck with that many miles. But if its crazy cheap then maybe its worth the risk.

I wouldn't buy it unless the seller changes the spark plugs or proves that they have been changed in the last 30k km, and don't buy it if the engine is noisy (cam phasers).
Hmm - 23 minutes and you are pissed because nobody responded? This isn't a chat room, it's a forum.

on the 3v 5.4s the oil needs to be 5w20 and non fram filter. Make sure it was changed atleast every 7500 miles. The fuel injectors on the US models (not sure about CAN) were warrantied up to 110k? miles. So might want to change them out in the future to ensure not problems.
