Backup sensors
Backup sensors
So I was looking into adding some 20% tint to my front windows to match the factory tint on the back. My only problem is that I don't want it to be too dark, making it hard to see at night. I looked into adding backup sensors to my FX4 that didn't come with them from the factory.
I was hoping that someone would have some experience and some input either on adding aftermarket backup sensors or having the dealership install some to make things a little safer/easier when backing up in the dark. I have searched all over for some good information on this subject but it seems to be a subject that isn't touched upon much. When it is, it is very brief. Anyone with any insight of some sort would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I may just end up getting 30% tint to get a good mixture of looks and practicality.

1. Get the backup camera....way better!
2. Get 15% on the front windows....thats what i went with and it matches perfect to the factory because of all the light coming in thru the windshield! I have a couple pictures in my profile if it helps!

Thanks for the quick replies guys! I looked at the camera as an option too but it's a little on the expensive side. My mom's Escape has the reverse sensors and the camera that came factory and don't get me wrong, I like both, but the sensors seem to be more my style because I'm not tempted to depend solely on the camera for vision when backing up. The sensors would be alright for me but I'll definitely keep the camera in mind! As for the 15% tint, I'm going to try and avoid going too dark so that I don't get crap from the police. Your truck does look good though Rhiggins1981!
The factory tint is around 18%, so 20% will be fine. How does having a better view of anything behind the truck make you rely in it? Also, adding the sensors is no cheap ordeal. I'd really think hard about the camera.

Depends on the model you buy. They have bluetooth versions that simply mount to the license plate frame and require no wiring to the cab. The factory model can be put in the tailgate handle like on the 04-08's, or in the Ford tailgate emblem like the 09+. The screen is up to you as well. Some use a small aux screen mounted somewhere, some buy a NAV/DVD head unit, some get the factory mirror w/display. Lots of ways to do it. I have the factory NAV/DVD in my truck, but the rear-view camera uses the display in the mirror.
The bluetooth version would be sweet! I didn't know they had that. If or when I get around to doing this, I'm definitely going to go with the head unit option. I feel like that would be the easiest to install, it would look the cleanest, the bluetooth camera would be a definite plus, and I was looking at getting a new head unit eventually anyways!
