2007 F-150 FX4 Maintenance
2007 F-150 FX4 Maintenance
Hi all- I have a 2007 F150 FX4 with the 5.4L flex fuel engine. I'm right at 60,000 miles. I had a minor issue with my 4 wheel drive engagement that luckily I got in under warranty.
However, while it was in there I asked if there was any fluid changes etc that should be done at this mileage. I typically do all my own, but I have been so buried with other commitments I thought maybe it would be best to have it done this time around. So in addition to an oil change, they recommended a:
Fuel Filter, transfer case oil change, front and rear dif fluid change, trans fluid change, and a coolant flush. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to look up the maintenance guide on line so I just said go for it as I typically trust this service shop.
Last night I checked out the maintenance guide.... I don't see any of this stuff mentioned (except for the coolant flush at 100k), and I went all the way to 150k miles in the book. Am I getting hosed??? Is there any benefit to changing all those fluids now? There's not much I can do at this point as the work has been done, but I can certainly take my business elsewhere and make sure they know about that.
Thanks!

I would certainly wait on all of that at least until you are about touching 100k miles. I would only change brake fluid, coolant, and maybe a serpentine belt but I would wait until 75k.
Fuel filter should be done every 3 - 5 oil changes ( 15k miles at least ).

Thanks guys. As I said I had it all done - so oh well lol. So now here's the beef - One of the reasons I HATE letting other people do work, is how do you know they did it??
The rear dif absolutely has new gasket material oozing out of the cover, so that's likely done.
I see NO gasket material oozing out of the front dif, the TC cover, or the trans cover. How on earth can I know that I at least got what I paid (dearly) for, about $600 worth?

I had all my fluids changed at 55k. So your ok, I mean I know the manual says at what mileage you should have all this done. Which is good. Others will say "well at 50k you wanna change all fluids to get all the flashings out. You have peace of mind and knowing that you don't have to do that over haul again til 120k or so.
