The rear trailer plugin does not work on my truck

The big round one, is that a fuse? is that called rear power point in the book?

The small square one works. its an 05 screw.

Never knew it didn't work till I tried to use it last weekend.

Anyone know?

It would be a little odd for one to work and not the other. Did you verify it had no power with a multimeter?

Yea I though so too.

I checked the square one with a meter, volatge on that, nothing on the round plug.

I even have one of those adapters that go from round to square, still nothing.

Well there is a relay I believe that may or may not have been included with the truck. You might see if it is installed.

If it was like my 07, the relay for that plug was in a plastic bag in the glove compartment for the owner to install if needed. Don't know why they did it like that, but probably just have to get that relay and plug it in the fuse box.

To get power to the 7-pin, I think you need to install one relay in the fuse box next to the passenger's right foot.

I have set up two F-150s to tow, my 2000 and my 2008. For the 2000, I bought a kit that included the relay and brake controller wiring harness from etrailer.com. For the '08, the relay was in a plastic bag in the glove box. (The previous owner never towed anything.) Both trucks needed to have a relay installed for the 7-pin to work.

You'll find some good info and the parts you need here:

http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-V...dy/118242.html

I can post a scan of the factory instruction sheet that came with the '08's relay and harness on Monday if you need it.

Hi - help, can you describe where this relay is, mine is a 07 f150 5.4 4x4 i have checked every fuse and relay i can find, three fuse boxes under the hood every fuse and relay under the driver side dash. I know why my trailer socket stopped working (i shorted it out *******) i found the 20 amp that controls the turn and parking to the socket but the brake lights still don't work i am using a standard test light and an ohm meter to test the relays. I feel there must be a fuse, relay or fusible link that i can't find, also my truck cab third brake light died too. Thanks for any help

This is interesting. On my 2008 (with the tow package) the 7 pin (round) connector works just fine as it came from the dealer. The bag in the glovebox has a connector and pigtail for a brake controller should I decide to install one, but nothing regarding the trailer connectors. Up until this year I towed a boat with a 4 pin flat that fit the 4 pin flat connector on the truck, but this spring I bought a boat with disk brakes that required the 5 pin flat connector (for the reverse lockout solinoid). So I bought a 7 pin round to 5 pin flat adaptor and it works just fine in the 7 pin round outlet.

You bought a boat with disc brakes? How does that work?
