CAI or Tuner?

Hey everyone,

I recently got a bonus at work and I've been looking for a while at a few different upgrades for my truck. I have a 2005 stx with the 4.6. I'm wanting to give it a little more power. Would a CAI or a tuner be better?

A CAI does very little woithout a custom tune. Get a tuner.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. I know that there are a lot of forums out there regarding tuners but do you have one that you are partial to?

If you are gonna go the CAI route, drop a massive $12 of that bonus on the stuff needed to do the Gotts Mod. I've done it ('08 STX 4.6) and it gives the 4.6 a decent wake up call.

Spend the rest on the Tuner. I'm on the fence about getting a Gryphon with custom tunes.

Is there a write up on here on how to do the gotts mod for the 4.6? Or is it basically the same as the 5.4? Because I think I looked at the thread for a guy that had done it to his 5.4. I'm pretty sure I'm going the tuner route I'm just trying to find a place around where I live to get a custom tune done.

The 4.6 mod is the same as the 5.4 and it really does make a difference.

Good luck with everything, you've got a nice truck.

No problem, I love any kind of great looking truck, as long as it says FORD

As far as the GM goes, the toughest part is getting the pipe cut JUST right so it fits into the fender hole. Total, it took between 45 mins-1 hour, and that is highballing it.

Haha true that man. FORD all the way!

I'm gonna try to find a write up and look into doing it this weekend.

If you can only get one, get the tuner. Adding my CAI was nice, but nothing compared to the difference I saw with the tuner. Plus, you can get the same results with the Gott's mod for much less (personally, I wanted the look as well as the performance though).

As for brands, I love my PHP Gryphon. Being able to get custom tunes as you do mods is a nice feature and they are great people. And now they have the fancy CS and CTS...
