airbag light

What could possibly make the airbag light come on? Ive got an '06 Supercab and a few days ago the airbag light lit up on the dash. When I shut the truck off and restarted it the light went out and stayed out until late last night when I was driving home. It randomly flashed a few times and then stayed on the rest of the way home.
This morning it was off when I started the truck but came on after driving a few miles. It went out when I parked the truck and hasnt came back on since.

My truck has never been hit/wrecked and there doesnt seem to be any issues with it otherwise.

I think its too new for the airbag recall because it was built 2/06 and if i remember right the recall doesnt affect '06 trucks built in '06.

What could make the light come on?

Is the light giving a flash code or is it solid on ?

Solid on is an indicator that the RCM has an error or is disconnected.

For the recall, you might want to run your vin to make sure.

my '06 was ordered in DEC-05 and started production in JAN-06, I picked it up the end of FEB I seem to recall, and I have the recall.

Well yesterday it flashed but then went solid and the other times it was just solid.

I guess Ill have to take it somewhere to get scanned because I dont have a scanner. Build date was 2/06.

Any idea where I can get info on it? I havent received a recall notice. Would be nice if I could get it done for free.

A recall is for free, this is not just a TSB, but a NTSA mandated recall.

Check at the Ford Owner site

Does your battery test OK ?

If its an 06, I'm pretty sure its part of the recall. I think all 05's and 06's were on the list.

Thanks. It says theres currently no recalls for my truck though.

I havent tested the battery but the truck always starts so I'd assume its ok. Original though.

Not since during the winter, why?

Anyway the light came on again today. Flashing at first and then solid. It goes off when i shut off the truck but then comes on again, was on most of the time I drove it today.

A few years back, mine airbag light came on and it was due to the driver side seat belt. The belt had to be replaced. If any of the components of the airbag system doesn't respond to the computer, the light comes.

There was nothing wrong with it. Latched and pulled fine. I think what happened is there are pyrotechnic charges in modern seatbelts so they "grab" quicker. If those aren't right or the electronics in the seatbelt don't respond right, the SRS computer will flag it for replacement.

What was the Light Flash Code ?

Without the LFC or a code reader that can read the SRS codes ( B codes ) this is all supposition

Count the flashes.

It will be in a 2 digit number, repeated 5 times.

Example

Flash - Flash - Flash - Flash { short pause } Flash - Flash { slightly longer pause } repeat 4 more times.

This is a LFC of 4-2.
