06 XL Help please!

Hey, I recently purchased a used 06 XL F150. I'm looking to replace or remove this plastic bumper that came with the truck, is it possible, if so how? Another question, I'm wanting to blackout possibly my headlights and taillights however I'm not sure if there completely legal in Georgia where I live. (If it isn't, how do all these people get away with blacked out lights?) Thanks.

The plastic between the headlight's and the metal bumper? if that's what your talking about, why would you want to take that off?

You do not have an STX. You have an XL.

That plastic is suppose to be there...however if you buy one for a STX that is smooth and paintable just have your local body shop paint it to match your truck. And as far as the black outs go....they are illegal in every state they cut back on the candle power of the lamps.

you can paint the insides of your headlights black, just look for the how-to on here as i don't have time to spoon feed you. as long as you retain the amber reflector, bulb cap, and keep the headlight and turn signal reflector bowls chrome you will still be 50 state legal.

p.s. the bulb cap can be painted as long as it is reinstalled.

It was DarrenWS6 that did an excellent write-up on giving our trucks Harley Davidson-styled/dark headlights. I think that will help you, and I believe it is somewhere in the '04-'08 forum...

The paintable version of that part is: 6L3Z17D957AAPTM

I had a 2006 XL, and I took it to a body shop, they replaced the black upper bumper with a paintable one, the grille with a paintable one, and then I had all of it PTM'd.

Hey great looking truck mate!
I was considering sanding down the bumper, then continuing with a guide starting with that, is that possible?

Also I want to replace the grille with something such as http://www.fordf150grills.com/APS/Cu...5725A/751330/#

If the plastic is textured, it will not just "sand out". It will ruin the plastic and make it look fuzzy if painted over.

Silly question here, I can't tell if its textured or not, how can I be sure?

If it is the original part, on an XL, it is textured. You'd have to replace it with the smooth / primered version of the part in order to paint it and have it turn out / last.

You can get that part from ford using the part number I gave you, or you can get the aftermarket version of the part from PartsTrain.com, PartsGeek.com, LMCTruck.com, RockAuto.com and even eBay. Some of the aftermarket versions are better than others, LMC's and RockAuto's are going to be your best bet, but if painted correctly (with adhesion promoter) any of them should do the job.

Just ordered a chrome upper bumper cover.
Can I get a good sand paper grit # for it? Also does anyone know the best primer and spray paint (black) to do the job? (I want it to shine like the rest of the truck!)

Don't that. you're best bet is to order the smooth primed upper bumper.
