Extended Warrante Question

Hello guys,
I got a 2008 FX2 V8 with around 31000miles on it, My warranty will run out in another 4 month or 36K miles. Now, I was thinking to get the PremiumCARE extended warranty up to 60Kmiles.

Just wanted to see if someone has a better input. It cost me ~$51 a month for 17 month. What u think?

Thx...

I believe you should have a 5 year 50,000 mi power-train warranty still in effect. The 'bumper to bumper' is 3 yr or 36.000 mi.

IMO a total waste of money. The EXP plan that you get from ford includes the 1st 3 years that you already have. Although I like my truck Ford has the worst factory warranty out there. If you are able to save $100 a month you are better off than paying $1400 or so for a extra warranty that you may not even need.

The problem with those extended warranties is the deny you for negligence or abuse so they try to deny every single major claim. Then if they cannot deny they fix as cheaply as possible. I would never buy one waste of money..

it's ~$50 a month which gets to a total of $1000 ($980 I believe). I can do that ~50 a month but I was not so sure. A coworker took the extended warrantee on his explorer and a week later on the transmission and a few other main things went out. They paid for everything. So, I looked at my truck and thought if this would be a good idea from my truck.

Thanks for your input. I think i'm not going to get the extended warrantee.

I never get extended warranties. They sell so many of these plans using fear of failure after they just sold you the product telling you how good it is?

I think of all the money I could be spending on extended warranties for my cars, my truck, the couple TVs, the cell phones, the home AC, the Refrigerators, .... and whether you call them an insurance plan or warranty .... when you buy it you are placing a bet that they will fail. I can even find a plan on my '92 or '95 T-Bird even. They are betting on the cars not breaking in a manner which will cause them a payout.

I treat stuff "mostly right" and rarely do I have a failure ....
.... but when I do, I either fix or replace and I'm many $$$ ahead of the game at 57 years now.

Far better to spend the money you would spend on a extended warranty on regular quality maintenance instead.

Actually if you buy a brand new truck and start saving $50 a month you'll have $1800.00 by the time the factory warranty runs out. If you keep on saving you'll have plenty of $$ for damn near any type of repair. If you don't need to use it you will have enough $$ for a down payment on your next one.

PS don't tell the wife!

I purchased the ESP "ExtraCare" when I bought my 06 Scab 5.4 4x4 in March of 2009 with 28k on the clock. Now with 74k on the clock its paid for itself I'm sure. 95% of my miles are highway miles with some light (under 4000lbs) towing. There has also NEVER been a question on whether the repair will be covered or not, its black and white with my dealer, if its listed for the ESP, its paid for. No questions asked.

Its covered:

Tow bill for FPDM failure (didn't cover the parts/labor)
Throttle Body
Coil Pack (X2)
Right Manifold
Lower Steering Shaft

Now. My truck has been maintained by the dealer (the major stuff anyways), per Fords recomendations. Regular fuel filter changes, got a letter saying recomended plug changes (for fear of breaking them) at 60k so that was done along with the trans fluid. Diff's have been done, Transfer case, etc. Oil changes every 5k (Motocraft oil/filters).

When I bought the truck, I got a discount on the warranty. I paid $850.00 for the coverage until 2013 for 100k miles, whichever is first. I'm glad I purchased it, and if I buy another F150 (EcoBoost hopefully) I'll purchase it again.

I just bought the extended for my '08, got the baseCARE which covers basically everything on my basic XL. Cheap insurance really, 11.66 per month for another 4 years coverage. If you decide to purchase pay up front if you can and save more $. Also, they will allow you to tailor the coverage to what you want (first day rental, etc.). I've bought ext. warr. for other vehicles I've owned, used some, some never. Its a crap shoot.

IF you can get a good deal on a factory warranty, I say go for it IF you are going to keep it "stock". I bought an ESP for my FX2 as I planned on just driving it for many years! Well, I ended up supercharging it, lowering it, etc., I cancelled my ESP and got almost all my premium back 8-9 months after I bought it.
