...not again

and tell us the truth Les... did you really say "yikes" when it happened or were there a few profanities mixed in?!?!?

Police officers are required as a function of the job to undertake risk and even engage in higher speed driving for a variety of reasons. They do get training, amount depending on how much money is available fopr it. They do the job while driving where as you drive to a job. They have blow outs, they make mistakes as any ordinary person can. you don't write them up unless the act was the result of gross negligence.

... and suddenly you find your wife has a carpet knife between the boys ...
... maybe she'll wait for the officers driving at normal speeds to get there
...... maybe she won't?
Aweful quick to judge there.

I'm not accusing him, but clearly he made some error
And (just a guess here) I imagine that "forcefully parking" in a random garage probably slowed down his response time a bit...
So in the end he would have been there much quicker had he slowed down for the curve.
But hindsight is always 20/20, right?
I love how everybody is so quick to jump to government conspiracy and gross negligence when none of you were there to witness the accident. I read this is the officers second accident in a month so maybe he is completely at fault but maybe... just maybe, there were other factors involved.
Being a cop myself, I can say from experience that responding to a domestic with a weapon involved is one of the most dangerous calls to respond to.
To the OP; I'm glad you and your family are okay and there were no injuries. I can only imagine how much of a pain it is to deal with everything to get your house and truck back to normal. To everyone else; how about we wait to see what the department decides to do before handing out all this stellar legal advice?

Awful quick to defend a fellow cop there...

If a man screws up when he should have known otherwise, that's one thing. But when he makes a mistake or suffers a possible malfunction or failure in equipment, when his actions are reasonable but may he had a blow out or simply underestimated speed as he was driving in emergency mode while conversing with a dispatcher and processing information both of the roadway ahead and of the scene awaiting him at the same time, both of which are changing in fractions of seconds .....
..... just not so quick to hang him.
I can think of quite a few instances over the years where I was just lucky I didn't go into a curve a couple mph faster, it's so easy when you have a dispatcher telling you blow by blow what's going on as she hears it on the phone or is updating you with the "he's just broke down the door" type stuff.
Every officer should know, just as I did, that the officer who doesn't make it is of no help .....
..... but how much do you want him to slow down when it's you counting those seconds?
There's screw ups, there's mistakes, and then there's gross negligence. I don't know which this officer committed from the limited info presented here. Officer can have two shoots in a week or he may go his whole career and never have to shoot one, doesn't make the second shoot in that week a "bad shoot".
Let me tell you a story of shoes being on other feet. Back when I was a youngster not long out of basic, in a nearby jurisdiction, a woman called a local emergency dispatcher one night about an intruder. Local officers arrived and caught the intruder trying to flee, and they were arresting him when the woman came out on the porch with fire arm in hand and let loose a shot. An officer was killed. Woman was hysterical. A jury later aquitted her. You think any officer in his right mind would ever respond to that address knowing that? She moved to another nearby jurisdiction. The word went out there as well. No officer wanted to ever get a call to respond there either.

update....Thursday my contractor came in ,finally, after miles of red tape, thanks to the county, and braced-up the garage and a wrecker pulled my truck from the bowels of hell...to my surprise, I don't think there is any frame damage...tons of cosmetic damage all around the truck...and to my ARE cap...my wife's 2 week old '11 Taurus...now 4 weeks old.(it was trapped in the garage longer than we owned it....will need a new bumper, paint to the trunk lid, a new wheel, and paint all down the passenger's side....all in all....I think the truck will be as good as new...that is, if the drive train isn't squashed.
The score in this game....'06 F150 and '11 Taurus limp to victory....'99 Sheriff's Crown Vic and my house....needless to say...they've seen their better days...
