I'm curious about the health of the plugs on the motor is basically all in that area. If there might be a small grade misfire or bad cop or something else that wouldn't show up as a code..
they use the same software as us, and its pretty much if there are no codes then there isnt anything "bad"

however they could do a "tune download" and update the PCM/TCM to the most recent software program which could help any TSB symptoms you have.

I've got some 4 wheel drive issues on my 04 Supercrew. It won't engage at all now (found out the hard way after loading my snowmobile up in a snow bank), and was making some noises when it did work. The sounds were almost like skipping gears but it was very sporadic. Also, I would hear a pretty significant thud when I applied the brakes in 4 wheel drive. The tires on it ore over stock size, but not crazy. Shouldn't be enough to effect the 4 wheel drive. Any suggestions?

the unfortunate diagnosis is the transmission and transfer case. So far the torque converter seems to have escaped the wrath of a wound up rear axle... I guess we won't know till its all out and apart. Currently loading the truck up to take it to a trans shop; I feel confident this guy knows what he is doing since he builds transmissions for souped up corvettes, mustangs, vipers, stock cars, etc..

I'm still going to replace the front hub assemblies and the IWE's just for the hell of it I guess since I ordered them...

Sorry about your luck. The expertly rebuilt tranny you should last a good while longer.

I'm thinking this will be the last new truck I'm ever going to purchase, keeping it until the wheels fall off so to speak. As expensive as they are these days I'll spend the money to have things like the engine and transmission rebuilt when the time comes. All the other work I can DIY, mostly.

I too agree stealth. I'm going to purchase a 2011 next December and it will be left alone since I plan on keeping my current truck as my toy. I will get better mpg's and still have a truck I can use everyday without being so fickle about it and keeping it clean My current truck is paid off, and I have sunk so much into modifications I'll never get it back out of it. Plus no one would ever appreciate it as much as I do. As of late I have gotten into a lot of benefit type events with the truck since kids go nuts over it and its always for a good cause.

You read my mind I was thinking a 2011 FX4 with the ecoboost and maybe a 2" level with some 305/55/20 nitto trail graps. This was until I read the lengthy thread on peoples issues with the traction control/ABS going crazy after just a leveling kit; after reading that I'll just leave it plain ol' stock that way I mitigate any issues I might have to the red one I'm driving now

Just a quick update, it appears the transmission and torque converter might be safe at the moment. The transmission guys found that my transfer case was completely screwed up and stuck in 4wd for some time now, it literally looks like a bomb went off inside it... its odd because I just changed the fluid in it and never noticed anything odd in the fluid, in fact it was still bright red..? I'm going to give a refurbed transfer case a shot since its just over half the price of a new one from ford (1600 bucks!). Hopefully this solves the issues, if not the transmission gets cracked open

However it wasn't engaging the front drive line all the time; apparently it did engage it periodically and was able to chew up the IWE's which I had already ordered. I'm thinking this was caused by a faulty IWE solenoid which I replaced earlier this year.
