I feel your pain. My 05 f150 just recently got crushed by a tree. Totaled it. It to say the least is sickening.

That's exactly what I'd fight! He had an aftermarket grill on there, and that's what I'd expect it to be replaced with. And most people on this site, myself included, are touchy when it comes to their truck. So I'd fight like a pit-bull on crack for nothing less than new, & OEM. But that's just me.

Well depending on your insurance company, and the language written into your policy, your Insurance carrier may only rebuild the truck with used or aftermarket parts. For 99.9% of all the Insurance carriers we deal with thats how it works. They don't care how much you complain either. If its written into your policy then you basically accepted the terms when you accepted the policy. Most will tell you to pay the difference if you want oem parts. Travelers Insurance is one of the few that only use oem to repair. There isn't many others, at least here in Jersey.

My 04 was rear ended in March of this year. Some dip@@@@ in an Acura hit the receiver hitch at 45+. Knocked me around pretty good and turned out the frame was bent. Shop wanted to put a used frame on, but after some noise, I got a brand new frame installed. They replaced body bushings and engine mounts among other things. Truck didn't even look damaged at first. Took 4 months but it's a sweet ride once again. Bill came out to $12,500. 3K miles later, no problems at all. Even took it to another mechanic to check the body shop work. Stay on them!

They can use used parts because they are replacing what you had, used parts. They are still OEM parts even if used.

You must first list all upgrade in your policy before the insurance company will cover them. In the case of the aftermarket grill; if you wanted it to be replaced with the same aftermarket grill you must list it as an aftermarket upgrade with the insurance. They may chose to raise your premiums. If you fail to list all aftermarket parts on the policy they only have to replace it with stock items. Unfortunately sometimes they may be uses.

I was involved in an accident on 9-14-10 and i still don't have my truck back yet. It required a new frame. i hope to get it back next week though. The knuckleheads at the shop pulled a few stupid maneuvers too. So i'm dealing with the same BS right now too.

Jonser5000, I was not at fault for this accident so it is not going against my insurance policy but is against the other drivers policy. so of course I don't have all my mods listed on their policy.

Most insurance companies cover items that are permanently fixed to the vehicle even if they are aftermarket.

Things that must be added are wheels (tires are usually not covered), stereo, TV monitors etc.

Things like exhaust, custom bumpers, grills etc should all be covered without additional payment on your policy.

You don't always have to take what the insurance wants to give either. I had a lady pull out in front of me just like your accident, except I was on a motorcycle doing 35 last october.

They wanted to give me about $2500 for the bike, but after being polite and negotiating, I got the total for property to just under $5k.

It really helped that it wasn't my fault.

Just hang in there and it all works out.

I added pictures in my album if you want to see. Sorry for thread jacking.

If you have over a certain ammount of milage on your vehicle insurance co.'s will put in for replacement with aftermarket parts. The fit is never correct. I had my front bumper cover replaced , and I was not happy with the finished product. I would not accept it till it was to my liking. The shop manager agreed with me , so he refinished the old factory bumpercover for me to my satisfaction.
