The choice is not yours whether or not to total a vehicle, its the Insurance carrier paying the claim. Its also not up to the adjuster, it goes by a formula and if the damage meets that formula the vehicle gets totaled. Most Insurance carriers set the amount at 75% of the actual cash value of the vehicle. Meaning if the damage is 75% of what the vehicle is worth then they total it, its as simple as that

Did I cry? I haven't stopped since last Saturday.
Today the insurance company said they where going to Total it!
They had already called a salvage company to come and get the truck, I told the adjuster "that will not happen! I would view it as steeling my truck from me and I would fight back".. then I said the truck is worth too much to say this minimal damage is a total loss, she asked if I would give her a list of the upgrades I had done and if the value was high then it would make sense to fix it. She called me back a half hour later and said " your truck has held it's value quite good! it is worth $26,700.00 so it is definitly going to be fixed
WOOOOOOW! that was close..

because he said his self they where going tot total it, bur he had them recheck.
I think they undervalued the truck TBH and he stopped them and had them take a second look.

He said they were going to total it, But chose not to only after he have them a list of all the upgrades he did to he's truck. Now I don't know what they valued his truck at before he gave them a list of upgrades, He never did say. Either way as long as the OP is happy with the outcome that's all that really matters.

I love my truck
You are all correct!
Yes the insurance company wanted to Total my truck, but then I said to them "That will not happen" go back and look at what I have done to my truck and double check the value. My reason is that in my perception the damage is minimal, only front body parts and frame bent but only in front of the wheels.
As it sits both wheels are straight and can turn full no problem. No engine damage beyond the radiator.
My reason for not wanting it totaled is Yes "I LOVE MY TRUCK" and also I am unemployed right now so if they where to total it then they would pay off the balance owed give me maybe 10k and leave me without a truck. I would not be able to buy another truck without a job to support the payments so this accident would have been equal to steeling my truck from me which is what I told them.
And I was ready for a fight.
If my situation where different then maybe I would have let them total it and bought a new truck? who knows, you have to make decisions based on your current situation.
I hope that I have made the right decision only time will tell..

My mods list is not up to date
For those of you wondering, My list of mods is not current. besides religiously performing maintenance on my truck ( changed spark plugs recently $600) there are also a few engine mods and others things that I have done that I don't have listed.
Vehicle is only totaled if value exceeds 75%, there is frame damage or airbags deploy. If you plan on keeping the vehicle I would have it fixed and the frame pulled out. It was a low impact and if no engine damage besides radiator I would keep it. If mine was involved in an accident right now, I would have it fixed and drive it. If down the road I wanted to sell it, I would private party sell it once the new engines are out for the 2011-2012 F150's
In that case, accept nothing but new metal and OEM parts! If its got a scratch or a scuff, tell them you want it replaced. You paid for the insurance, get back the most you can from them.
The shop will more than likely cheap out on certain items, ask to see the part replacement list and ask questions if something looks "repaired" or bent into place.
