Oil change question
Oil change question
I was looking at Advance Auto's website to figure out how much it's going to cost to get the stuff to change the oil in my truck next weekend (2006 F150 5.4L). Noticed there is a drain plug gasket.....is it necessary? I was under the impression that all I needed was 7qts of 5w20 and an oil filter.

Not at all.
However, I keep an extra factory drain plug for each of my vehicles in my garage just in case. I may never use them, but for the small cost involved, it's worth it to me if it saves me even once from "being caught with my pants down" during a Sunday evening oil change.....

Exactly what I do. I use the Motorcraft synthetic blend in my Impala and water cooled John Deere Lawn and Garden tractor in addition to my F-150 and Escape. Cheaper than pure Dino oil when you buy it at Wal-Mart.
Can someone show me where it says run 7 quarts of oil in their manual? My '05 never gets more than 6 in a change, oil is good on the stick, and oil pressure is always just a tick over the middle bar on the gauge.

Yep.
And - wherever that puts you on the dipstick, sitting for several hours ( overnite is good)- that's yer *NEW* Max Fill point. Mark it with a punch.
