New Battery, which one??

Its time for a new battery - not very pleased with OEM. If I play the radio for more than 10-15 minutes with truck not running it dies. Went on a business trip got back home after a week and it was dead. Then after this weekend my truck sat without me driving it and it was dead this morning.

So my question is what battery do you guys recommend?

I did some searching and found came to the following conclusions:
Optima batteries are not that good and over priced.
Sears platinum (die hard) and Kinetik are spoken very highly of.

The only place around here that carry Kinetik are some audio stores and they appear to be very price + their potential markup. With that said leaning towards the Sears platinum....

x2 on that. I just picked one up a few weeks ago.

Also to the OP, you might considering doing the big 3/4 which will help keep that battery charged and put less strain on your battery when running accessories.

Interstate. I have a MTP-65 in my 2005 and I am buying a second one for the 1992 this week. And as far as OEM goes, mine lasted 5 years/65,000 miles. I don't know how much more you want from a stock battery. Maybe they aren't what they used to be.

...same here. Mine was still kicked at 69k and 6 years. I just decided to replace it because I didn't want to be stranded all of a sudden.

I see you also have a 2005. OP has a 2008. Maybe the newer OEM batteries arent as good as the older ones were.

I hear the newer Motorcraft batteries are crap. Seems that these days, most batteries are crap, they are making them in China.

I replaced my original Motorcraft last fall (almost 7 years and 115k miles) with a Duralast Gold. I've heard that these aren't so good, but with a full 3 year warranty and a 8 year prorate I'm not too worried.

I got an overpriced Optima Yellow Top. I love it. I can run the radio for 8 hours and still crank her over fine. I am in the South, though, so Red Top might be better up north. YMMV

In my 03 F150 I never had any problems with the battery and I also had a pretty good sound system in there. Maybe the battery in my 08 is defective.

From what I can find looks like the Interstate battery is quite a bit cheaper. I dont mind paying a little more if the DieHard Platinum is better though.

Thanks for the info guys....keep it coming.

I had lots of issues with my factory battery in my 07...If I didn't start it for more than three days or if I ran the radio without the engine running for 10 min it would be dead...Finally went with an Interstate megatron plus MTP-65 and haven't had any problems since

Don't go with a Optima, the companies changed ownership and quality dropped down the toilet. Supposedly interstate is the best right now.

Cool, sounds like we are in the same boat. Sounds like a lot of people have done well with the Interstate Megatron plus.

Costco with 3 years free replacement, most of the time they are deard near the 3 years time frame with no money or little money needed to replace for a new battery with another 3 years warranty

Not too long ago I replaced the OEM with a Duralast Gold from autozone. I've always had good luck with Duralast. This one has 1000 CCA. I had a yellow top Optima on my travel trailer that saw very little use and was kept charged. It only lasted 3 years. Optima is a piece of junk IMO.

I just bought my 2nd Sears Platinum (Odyssey) battery...this one is the marine batt for the boat. As mentioned in numerous threads, the Platinum is an absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery and not acid filled as are many other types of car batteries.

Read more: Odyssey FAQ

I am big fan of these batteries and although they are not cheap, I dont think I will buy another brand of battery again.

There is a ton of info out there regarding all of the batteries mentioned so this is just my personal opinion.

Good luck!
