Weatherguard Toolboxes

Does anybody have a Weatherguard toolbox? If you do, what model number is it and would you recommend yours? Also, any pics of it inside or out would be much appreciated.

I posted this question in the 09-10 forum a week or two ago because I'm looking into buying a Weatherguard toolbox for my truck (2010 Lariat Screw 5.5 ft bed). However, there seems to be major discrepancies with whether the low-profile saddle box (model #121-0-01) I want will fit my bed. Their website isn't very clear on which models will fit my truck. I've called them multiple times and had someone else call. Each time the person that answers the phone gives a different answer as to which models will fit my truck. I've also filled out their form online twice so they could email an answer (once a week ago and once a month ago). I have yet to receive an email back. In order to get a Weatherguard toolbox I have to get a shop around me to order one because none of them (that I've been able to find) carry the toolbox (model #121 or 127) in stock. This is going to cost me around $700, and the shops wouldn't be too happy if I asked them to order it and then didn't buy it because it wouldn't fit.

Looking through the photo galleries a couple days ago I noticed someone with a 2008 F150 short bed had a Weatherguard box, and since I had no luck in the 09-10 forum, I figured I'd try this and see if anyone else has one. Also, do the 2004-2008 short bed F150s have the same measurements as the 2010 short beds? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a weathertech but I got the largest one I could. 27" wide and sits 8-10" over my rails. It does look sweet and is high quality. Check my gallery for pics from different angles. If you want a picture of something specific, PM me.

Thanks for the reply! Yours definitely looks like it can store a lot. Has it been holding up well? Still glad you got a Weatherguard?

I finally got ahold of a manager at Weatherguard today, who then posed my question about the low-profile model fitting my truck to a Tech Support guy and another guy. Supposedly the low-profile model will 100% fit my truck. So, I called the local shop I was in contact before to order it. Turns out the only one they have in the company right now has a huge dent in it. So, the sales rep called the headquarters in Alabama. Turns out they won't get another order in for another 3 weeks. This toolbox has been giving me a headache for the past 4 weeks already. I'm going to put down a deposit though in the next couple of days and go ahead and wait the 3 weeks for it. All I've got to say is this better be the best damn toolbox in the whole world haha.

Find a store who carries weatherguard and is nationwaide (Grainger or fastenal maybe?) If one store has it at any location they can find it and normally ship to store for free. I bought mine from a local company. I love the locks on my weatherguard b/c they sink in. I have several thousand $$$$ in tools in the back and trust them to weatherguard.

Have you ever considered a In the bed tool box?? I wanted one, but use my bed too much for these.

If I were in the market for a heavy duty tool box, it would be a Weatherguard or a UWS Red Label. Both are nice, but will cost you. My UWS Blue Label does what I need it to just fine.

The Tractor Supply store here sells Weathergaurd. You have one in your area?

Thanks for the advice. The store I've been talking to isn't nationwide, but it has about 20 stores throughout the South. They were just going to get it shipped in from one of their other stores, but it turns out that the only one that has one currently is the Columbus, GA store which is the one that has a huge dent in it. They're about to make another bulk order of them to replenish their stores so that's why it is going to take three weeks. The sales guy has been very friendly, they're offering a really good price considering, and I don't absolutely need the toolbox the next three weeks so if I have to wait it won't be the end of the world. That being said I'd rather have it sooner than later. I've never heard of Fastenal stores (which isn't that surprising considering 99% of my truck knowledge has come from F150 forums I've been reading religiously the last month since I got my truck). There are two Fastenal stores near me so I'll give them both a call tomorrow and see if they have any more readily available and what the price would be.

As far as the bed tool box is concerned, I never really considered it because it doesn't meet my needs. My toolbox isn't really going to house a bunch of tools (although I will put a little toolbag in there). It's mostly to hold junk I don't want in the cab of my truck (basketball, kevlar & helmet when I join the military so it doesn't stick up the inside of my truck, bunker gear if/when I get back with a fire dept, etc.). I think the low-profile saddle box will fill those needs pretty well, and I like how it looks.

GTRider: Unfortunately, the closest Tractor Supply to me is an hour away. The Weatherguard is definitely costing me a large sum of money, and I could most likely do just fine with a not-so-heavy-duty toolbox considering I'm not going to be using it to store extremely expensive tools or anything. But I intend on keeping this truck for the next 10 years, and I want only the best for it. I figure how much I'm going to be using my toolbox over that 10 year span, I might as well go for the best.

I see what you are saying. Does WG do a low profile box now?

Yes they do, and I'm very happy to say that supposedly it will definitely 100% fit my truck. Or so the supervisor, tech support guy, and some other guy informed me today. If you look at "bigokomoesf150" photo gallery, you can see his low profile black one on his 08 F150. I'm getting the regular clear (silver) one, though.

i used to have one. high quality toolboxes. my only reason for gettin rid of it was it sat way too high over my rails and hindered my view behind me.

whackemstackem: My reasoning for wanting a low profile one was because I don't want it to hinder my view and don't want it to hinder a large degree of the opening of my rear window (my truck has the power back window and I drive with all my windows down every chance I get). Based on seeing the pictures of the low-profile Weatherguard in "bigokomoesf150" photo album, I don't think it'll hinder my view or window that much. If the low-profile Weatherguard wouldn't fit my truck, I'd have to think long and hard before I'd purchase the Weatherguard standard box. I'm pretty dead set on Weatherguard, but I'm also pretty dead set on low-profile also. It'd be a toss-up. Hopefully, the low-profile Weatherguard will fit my truck and everything will be awesome. I'll definitely post pics of it if/when I get it.

Update:

Called the two local Fastenal stores to see what their prices are and if they have a quicker timeline of when they could get the toolbox I want in. (Keeping in mind that the place I have already been talking to price is $752 with tax and would get in May 26th-28th time frame.) Spoke to the Fastenal store about 4 miles away from me. Final price with tax and shipping $920.10 and wouldn't get in until May 21st. Oh heck no! So I called the Fastenal store 11 miles away from me, figured it couldn't hurt. Final price with tax and shipping $643.22 and would get in May 14th. Awesome! But wait, there's a problem. They don't install them. So, I call up the shop I have been talking to (who said they would install it free of charge if I bought it from them) to see if I could pay them a little bit of money for them to install it if I buy it from a different company. To my complete amazement, they said they would do it completely free! So I ordered the low-profile Weatherguard toolbox from the Fastenal store #2 and am going to take it to be installed at the other shop I've been dealing with (The Truck Stop in Pensacola in case anybody wants to know). Have no idea why there is such a LARGE cost difference and ordering arrival time for the Fastenal stores that are only a couple miles apart, but I'm very happy that it looks like I'll finally be getting the toolbox I want and for a great price.

Thanks 1st4x4 for your advice on looking at Fastenal! You saved me about $110 and an extra week or two in delivery time. If I lived near you I'd buy you a beer haha

That's a good idea. Instead of "edible arrangements" we could do "Drinkable Arrangements" ! Then you could mail me a beer.

And installing the toolbox is just bolting down some "J" Bolts through predrilled slots to the bed rails. That is a big price difference between Fastenal stores so make sure it is what you are looking for before you pay.

Here's mine. It's the 27" wide all steel model, powdercoated black. Model 116-5-01 Saddle Box. This sucker weighs 180 lbs empty.
