Anyone a firefighter??? Got a siren question

Hi Im new here. I was went to google and typed in Where to put a siren on a 2004-2008 F-150. There was a bunch of hits from here. But nothing that I saw that I was looking for. Well I got a 2004 F-150 Fx4 with the center shifter. Im ordering a siren but trying to figure out which one. It all depends where I can put it.

I like the ones with the Mic for the PA feature but not sure if I really need that. I also seen one with out the PA feature too. Im also looking at one that you can put the brains in a hidden spot and then you have two switches. Im thinking this is the one I want. The thing is were could I put either one of these at? I was thinking the one with the PA I could put either on the center shifter next to the driver seat or maybe see about removing the ash tray. I just dont want it to make the truck look bad in the inside. If I go with the other one where would you recomend the switches to be? Also where is the best place for the speaker? Behind the grille or in the bumper?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also pictures would help too. Thanks

For personal vehicles, I like Whelen sirens. That being said, you have two options.

First, a full size unit mounting in the consol and wired to the horn for hands free (HF) operation. I know a few guys that have them set up this way.

http://sirennet.com/wh295sl100.html

Second option would be to go with the undercover model, which has the switches seperate from the control head. You can mount the switches wherever, and still use the HF function.

Marry either of those with a Whelen 100 watt speaker and you will be good to go. I will post a picture of my siren speaker and where it is mounted later on.

the undercover model is going to cost you, but if you can afford it, thats what you want. the standard Whelen unit I would just mount where it could seem less conspicuous

Well I was looking at the Carson SA-361 Defender which is an undercover model. It runs about 90 plus another 90 for the speaker. Its actually a little cheaper then a normal unit.

Just remember, emergency equipment is just like anything else. You get what you pay for.

How much do you plan on spending for this whole project? I hate to break it to you, but good, well covered setups dont get done on budgets. Unless you buy used. Head over to www.elightbars.org and look around some. Plethora of info on this subject, as well as a For sale forum.

Well the light bar Im looking at is 348. Its from speedtechlights.com then I seen that siren for 180. I would just have to order a wiring kit. So total price would be around 600.

Do your research before you order stuff. That company and its products are crap. Once again, you get what you pay for.

I have a 2005 FX4 and researched this a little. For the interior I found this:

http://www.publicsafetysource.com/em...-f150-6238.htm

there is also a company that makes a bracket to install radios and siren boxes into the center console. I have two radio heads installed into my center console with just their factory brackets.

For the speaker install; you would probably need to make some sort of bracket to mount to the radiator, I haven't seen anything for this.

Yeah, we have sirens in our 2010 F-150 XLT Battalions, that is way we ordered them with column shift. So we had the whole between the seats for our woo woo stuff. Gunna have to go with the undercover type that has a remote switch. The speaker can be mounted to rad. support on the left side.

I have a '04 FX4 myself.... I'm using a Federal Signal PA300 Siren, and I mounted the lightbar controls ( Whelen Edge ) to one side and my radio to the other - then slid the entire unit between the driver's seat and the center console (see pic below) With every thing bolted to the siren box, the entire unit is surprisingly stable!
I hung the Radio mic on the lid of the console cover just to keep it out of my way

as for a mounting location for the siren speaker, I used the center support in front of the radiator

Hope that gives you some ideas
