Anyways Lytefoot:

The cheapest lifts are going to be "stage ones". Procomp and fabtech both have these types of lifts. They use a spacer instead of a whole new coilover in the front. The stage ones are cheaper and as long as your are not an idiot with your truck they should perform just fine. Once you lift the truck and put larger tires on it it will probably be lacking some power. But you are not building a race truck, so that isnt a problem. I have a procomp stage one lift on mine and have not had any problems with it. I use my truck, dont abuse it. It sees its fair share of mud, dirt, water, etc. But it always gets a bath (eventually) and still runs like a champ.

 

you would bring that up. i will admit that was poor judgement on my part, now if i don't know how deep something is i get out a check before just hitting it. didn't break anything though.

at the time no i didn't have the gears changed and it drove completely fine. i still towed with it and i barely felt the trailer behind me. now that i have 38's though i have regeared. most people use to say that you don't need to regear until you get to 37's or bigger but here lately it has become a lot more popular to do it sooner. i drove my truck for about 40k with a 6in. lift and 35's from day one with no problems whatsoever besides a blow out but that's more of the tires fault. i believe you said you have 3.73's, if you do then you should be fine, even with the 3.55's you would be ok.

 

I am 17 and my parents gave me an 05 and i leveled it and put 33's on it. i have not abused it i was it and take care of it. I take it off road every now and then but it gets washed as soon as i get home. If i was you i would get the 6in but if you want to spend a little less money get a 4in and 35 mts that will make the truck look great i am planning on doing that as soon as i can

 

Lytefoot- you never answered my question , how much are you looking to spend ?

 

Let the kid enjoy himself. I wouldn't go with a body lift. It's a hack way to lift your truck. I would still regear on 35+'s, to save mpg, and stress on the transmission.

I think at 16 he should be more worried about drinking and drugs. That's when it all started when I was in HS a couple years ago.

 

Ohh just another jealous person. Im a 16 year old kid, my dad bought the lift and the tires and i have to buy the unnessary wheels just to clarify.

I'd go with a leveling kit and 33's. You'd be amazed at the difference in appearance on an stx. It is still easy to park, doesn't suck unnessecary gas and doesn't need regearing esp w 3.73's. It is affordable too look at my gallery for pics

The only way I'd do a body lift is if I had a suspension lift. Otherwise it looks terrible IMO.

I've had my truck since I was 15 (almost 19 now) and not ONCE has it seen off road, it's only been over 65mph 2 times maybe . My parents didn't buy the truck for me, but even if they did I wouldn't have beat on it. Not every kid is gonna go beat the ***** off of their vehicle just cause it has a lift on it.

 

Body lift doesnt look terrible , you just have to know how to hide it lol
