On my 99' I had a similar type of problem that ended up being the fuel pump going bad. It was varrying in how much pressure it was sending out under higher accelerations. Driving normally it was mostly fine but if I got into it, the fuel pump couldn't keep up anymore. Had it replaced and all was good.

Update ?

So BJ - any further news on this? How long does it take to reflash your truck, anyways?

What't the ETA on those coils?

Suspense! Drama!

I hate the stock tune so much, I'm going to put the coils on first. Then if that does not fix it, I'll try the stock tune.

I think Global sent them by mule train. They are due here next month.

I still don't think it is the coils. In most cases the coils will cause a misfire or rich condition in the exhaust. Either of these will cause a CEL which you are not getting.

A fuel delivery problem will also cause a loss of power but might not throw a CEL. I would focus my attention on this first. The EDGE/Gyrpon will display fuel pressures. I believe they are around 40 psi under normal driving. I don't know what the allowable drop is but if needed I can check mine to see how much they fall off when I go WOT. If yours are very far off then you have isolated the problem for $0.00 and very little time without opening the hood.

My fuel pump went bad without tossing a CEL and it only showed its ugly face under harder acceleration or slight acceleration while in O/D. It couldn't maintain a high enough pressure when I stuck my foot in it and it made it buck pretty hard.

I had a similar problem with a tuner and it was shift points and WOT program issues. Never threw any codes. My problem was just as you describe. Normal acceleration ok...WOT at any speed and it bogged down or bucked hard.

Before you swap any parts why not try to put it back to stock and eliminate simple stuff. If it's not you wasted some time...if it is you will waste money and time.
Are you saying that the program changed on you? I have run this tune for a year and a half, ablut 36000 miles. How can it change?

Yeah, I'll probably try the stock tune, just didn't want MGDfan to think I was taking his advice.

No my battery condition was the changing variable along with the fact that I live a few miles from where I could punch it.
Stock had no performance problems.
It takes less than 3 or 4 minutes to change individual settings on my tuner or twice that time to switch it back and forth Bluejay.

From a dead stop or stock, the problem didn't show...only when using tuner settings.

Later on when I replaced the battery the problem went away I realized that a weak battery was affecting tunes (shift and WOT adjustments) more than the stock setting. No parts needed.

Tunes probably are not the problem but it's just such a simple troubleshooting check...much easier and cheaper than swapping parts.

You got that right! It's warmed up to 18*. Not sure when it will be warm enough .

I hate to even post this. I am really baffled now. I floored it on the way home from work to see if it acted any differently. It downshifted perfectly and no pulsating. Ran great. So, I got up to higher speed, tried it again. No problem. The only thing different is a new take of gas, about 150 miles, and it is very cold out now. Very weird. Problems do not heal themselves.

Hmm. Maybe there was some bad gas in the last tank.
