Yea, coils are load sensitive, that's for sure. Have you ever had injector problems in the past? Surprised I don't see any mention of that, since the 05 was the model year for those issues.

I'd have to go with the majority on this one tho, - coils. I wouldn't rule out a fuel issue yet.

Good Luck Blue.

Nope, never had an injector problem. This is the first problem I have had since it was new. At 1600 miles, they replaced a defective throttle body. It has been smooth till this. Sounds as if I need to try the COPs first.

Just replaced a coil pack on a buddy's truck that had the same symptoms. I would say that is your problem.

Since the injectors have a 100,000 mile warranty, it might not hurt to have them checked. Thing is, I'm not sure how the dealership works that ? If it's totally cost free lol. I would have to call them and inquire.

Truth be told, I would start with the fuel filter myself, - I don't like to let it go that long. When they go bad, engine reaction doesn't always follow theory, they can fool yuh

It's 11 years, 120,000 miles.

Well I personally know how it works when one hydrolocks your engine. Got a new short block installed and one injector replaced for free, but I paid to have the rest of the injectors replaced, peace of mind.

My experience is when one goes it goes, no warning. Blue's experience sounds like something different in comparison.

I considered the fuel filter first. But, since I can floor it from a standstill and go to 5000rpms without a skip, wouldn't that pretty well eliminate the filter?

It's about time for a fuel filter, regardless. I am at 19,000 miles on it.

Did you try going back to the "stock" tune and seeing what happens?

Yea, it's hard to say. A few have posted having the same problem in this thread, with it being a bad coil. All other posts considered, that's probably your best bet. You have other idea's to fall back on, -just in case.

I like the go back to stock tune as well. You could go back to stock/ re-boot/ run it for a bit/ re-load your tunes or how ever you do it and see what happens; - I haven't run custom tunes yet myself . PCM's can get buggy tho.

blue the reason its the coils to blame, is from a stand still, you work up through the RPMs, where as when you downshift, you go from 1700 to 4500 pretty instantly and the coils cant respond to the speed change quick enough

If you need help doing the coils let me know

Ok, and thanks for the offer. That makes sense I suppose. I hate this electronic stuff!

gotta jump onto the COP bandwagon.

I've run across alot of the 4.6 3v Mustang guys describing the same thing...especially those with the auto tranny.

one day everything is fine...the next it acts like a bucking bronco
