Black head lights (Ebay)

Aren't these just like OE head lights but black? They don't look all Euro'ed to me and are not bad priced... Seems like this would be better than painting my own and caulking and all that BS.

yeah but they will probably leak pretty bad. most ebay headlights aren't sealed very well.

haha i guess leak was not the right word, they will probably get water inside them over time, which my factory headlights that i took apart and painted did this too even though i sealed them up. if you get those then just get some silicone and put around the edges of them to keep water out.

Sure, the eBay headlights may be more prone to inadequate sealing than OEM headlight, but are they really any worse than OEM headlights that have been baked in the oven, modified and put back together in ones garage?

I had contemplated the eBay lights myself, but ultimately painted my own because I wanted a slightly different paint style than what the Harley Davidson truck (and eBay knockoffs) came with. I don't have any issues with sealing on my modified OEM headlights, but I can't speak for any of the after-market ones.

Ebay lights have **** poor optics, literally its that bad. I thought it was just my HID's but I put back in some halogens to see and its the housings themselves. The light is all scattered and broken, it also has absolutely no cut off with either HID's or halogens. If you look close at my ebay lights the plastic is all rough inside, not to mention the plastic is de-laminating after 2 years on the lense, one was leaking earlier this year (even after I sealed it up).

I literally cut the ebay junk lights in half, took the clear reflector and put it in the OEM housings sealed it back up and wa-la the headlights from Ford have better optics and are all around higher quality than the Ebay garbage.

I also got jipped along with another member when trying to buy the lights, ended up with a claim through ebay and pay pal cause some of those folks selling lights are scams.. Just another beware on ebay

Another one from staying away from ebay lights. I bought some last year and a couple months later they started to fog so i took them apart and resealed them.

Are you saying the "reflector" area on them is bad? The bowls that the bulbs sit in?

I think it has to be something with that area. Just looking and comparing them they are basically the same as OE. Then again take my opinion/review with a grain of salt since there are a lot of others with them out there that are happy with them! My headlights require a lot of aiming down so I don't think that helps my case, but the OE sure handle it better.

you get what you pay for. eBay lights are not DOT aprroved. Which is basically what FX4life is talking about.

DIY Headlight painting is extremely easy. And it had zero affect on the light output. I did mine up in a Harley/FX2 mixture and couldn't have been happier. I would do it again in a heartbeat

i got those same lights off ebay and ran them with hids to begin with, sure they werent the best cut-off etc etc. but i didnt think they were that bad, i am back with the oem bulbs now and i feel its the bulbs that suck not the lens.

i will be switching to silverstar or piaa soon and see with those. sure its nice to have good lights but after all these are trucks not mercedes
