I think it is. Every 04-08 I've been in is between 1/2 and 3/4.

Actually that oil guage is really a dummy guage.

It is either "on" or "off"...

Meaning if you trip the oil sensor that the oil is low (oil pressure <5 psi [you don't want it to go that low, you'll really screw up the engine anyways!!]), that gauge will go all the way down to the red marker. Say you add more oil, the oil gauge will go back to that "3/4" position or whatever.

A real oil pressure gauge will move as you use the engine. I've got a real oil pressure gauge in my Dodges... why? I don't know... maybe because Dodge doesn't have faith in their engines?! But on the lighter side, on the older generation Dodges, they have a real Oil Pressure Gauge shown in PSI units.

It's for people who don't want to be confused with the facts. The fact is, NO vehicle is going to maintain the same oil pressure at idle at a light and at 80 MPH on the open road, like your gauge would like you to believe. It's an insult as far as I'm concerned. By the time your gauge has fallen from where it normally runs, the 5 PSI of pressure has likely caused damage anyway, so why even have a gauge? It's a gauge for stupid people who are happy when their gauges are reading good and say that knock can't be anything wrong because my gauges are all good!

I see, I was just wondering, I know from the open wheel mod we used to have that at idle the oil PSI was always a tad low, but at track speed it was much higher, I think normally it was between 45-70 Psi.

I would prefer that it worked though, I never would have guessed that it was a dummy.

Oh well.

To add on to what these guys said:

Its not an instantaneous pressure. More like an average. My oil pump went out in july (with only 51K miles might i add) and the low oil pressure buzzer came on literally 3 seconds before the motor locked. I didn't have enough time to pull off the highway between wrench light, oil pressure sensor and trashed motor

They ought to hang the duffus by the gonads that came up with this worthless deceptive piece of garbage. It gives people a FALSE sense of security and the when thy have a problem, it turns into a $7- 8K problem because of absolutely no warning.

Yep a new long block was about 7800. I had to put a used motor for less than 4K out the door with 12month warranty. kinda crappy but oh well stuff happens
