HID/halos

i think im gonna ask for an HID kit (probably 6000k) and black projector headlights. first of all, any tips on brands for HID kits would be appreciated, im really just considering saving the rents some money and saying just get an ebay kit. also, which headlights look better?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...mZ380176607201
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...mZ290326556260

i like the "futuristic" look of the first and the blue LEDs but i also like how the second look almost OEM, just a little sleeker. just lookin for any input.

and any general knowledge/experiences with HIDs and projectors would also be appreciated. thanks for the help and merry christmas! :santa:

my buddy had that first set on his truck for about 10 mins and took them off the bulb is a H1 and it puts out very little light. I have the single halo kit the main issue with them is a lot of guys got them and they leak after I got mine I went over them with some RTV, if you put HID's in your gonna want to adjust your headlights cause you will blind the SH%# out of the other guy.

I got the first set, and I love them. I have 10000k HIDs in the low beams and they are nice! I didn't like the second one with the "OEM" appearance because it had too much surface plastic on it, where as the first one had your highbeam and lowbeam segregated. The only problem I have with mine is the headlamp housings don't line up. You can adjust your lowbeam projector lens so you have even height, but your stuck with where your highs shine. I don't commonly use my highs, but when I do, they shine upwards and to the left a bit.

As for the HIDs, I'm not familiar with brands but I get mine off ebay and the only problem I had with them is directly connecting them to my bulb harness. With my daytime running lights on, or my perimeter lighting on, they make my HIDs "flicker" to the point of malfunction. They work fine when just the lowbeam switch is activated. The only cure for that is using a relay from the battery connected to the headlamp harness. This will deliver constant, uninterrupted power to your HID transformer ballasts any time your lowbeams need to be activated, and allows your HIDs to shut off when your lowbemas wouldn't normally be on. The only issue with using a relay for your HID kits will be with F150s that have an onboard display that shows when something is wrong. FX4s, Lariats, Harley Davidsons, King Ranch, FX2s, they are the main inclusion. What will happen is they will tell you to check your headlights left/right even though the HIDs work just fine via relay. The computer won't display that message with a direct connection.

Also, you'll find some kits that have a "digital" ballast. I'm honestly not certain what that is referring to, but in my opinion they work and shine the same as any regular kit. One other thing I will mention is find a ballast that is "shock-proof". Some of my older ballasts didn't say they were, and the constant offroading I do coupled with brake vibration made the lights "flicker" when the truck would jerk with any kind of sudden movement, or even with some simple road vibrations. But when I bought this kit that said the ballasts were "shock-proof", I never encountered the problem from then on.

My final point of advice is to buy two HID kits for each light you get them for (fog, low beam, high beam). Reason for this is it's hard to find an aftermarket HID kit at local stores. In fact, I live in Las Vegas and I have never seen an aftermarket HID kit anywhere that sells automotive parts and accessories. And trust me, it's no fun having to go back to your stock bulbs 'in case' you blow an HID bulb or ballast while waiting for another one to be shipped to you through ebay.

So good luck with your decisions and I hope things go good for you!!

an H1 hid bulb will put out the same amount of light as any other bulb such as an H13 hid bulb, just as long as the temp. is the same. the only thing that changes on an hid bulb is the base of it and sometimes the length, which will have no effect on light output.

i would steer clear of HID4U, there are many people on this forum and on others that have had problems with their kits and there is no way to contact the seller. i got my kit from Xenonlink.com , they're a sponsor on here and will answer any questions that you may have but i haven't had any so far.

If you like the headlight you picked, then by all means go for it!! I've never seen those on a truck so I can't give positive feedback. But I'm certain I'll change my mind later, lol. As for the seller, I purchased an 8000k bi-xenon HID kit for my girlfriend's 2008 Sport Trac. The sale was timely, communication was great, and my kit didn't cost as much as that. It has never run into problems.

Only difference is I didn't bother with the "digital" set because I'm really skeptic about seeing "digital" in terms of electrical transformers that small. Digital doesn't always mean better. Sometimes, digital is just a scam. The best way to install ANY aftermarket HID system is NOT to install them directly to your stock harness, but to install them using a relay which bi-xenon kits do use for operation and the high beam solenoid.

One thing to be careful with. If you go with a bi-xenon kit, install with a relay to run power, and your truck has a computer that shows you when something is wrong (for example, the LCD that displays your mileage has the ability to show you when a light bulb is burned out, when your oil needs to be changed, when your tires are low, etc), it will tell you to check your left and right headlamps. That code can be removed at a shop with the proper programming equipment.

So good luck to you on this project! Please post images when you get it together!!

Smokeybear, please do provide the details on what bulb type fits those headlights, and did you use the bixenon setup? Any issues with flickering or keyless entry messing up the headlights/fogs?
