FX2 Style Fog Lights the 2005 way
FX2 Style Fog Lights the 2005 way
I tried the pre-cut tint from rvinyl and I really didn't like the look. So, after searching other threads (thanks guys, you know who you are) I went with the do-it-yourself way. It took a whole weekend but was well worth it. I went ahead and sprayed the whole light because I don't use my fog lights much anyway and when I do everyone flashes me because they think my brights are on. After trying to explain the process to my "lady-friend".. yeah I know.. I figured I'd post the process here, lol ..(The fog lights weren't mounted in these pictures. I just set them in for some quick pictures before it got too dark. They're bolted in now though.)

Start:

I removed the fog light (above) then baked them, one at a time, in the oven at 250 for 10 minutes. Then I removed the lens with a flat head. It's pretty easy, just start from the outside edges and don't forget to get all that grey silicone out before it dries again..

After taking a few tops of paint out of the o'reilly's(really helpful guys btw) and putting it up to my headlight, I got the closest I could find. Pretty good match I must say.

I painted them in the morning and let them dry overnight.. then added a clear coat the next day.

Sealed them up with this stuff...

waited over night...

and there you go. ....

Thanks!! You should.. it's not as hard as it looks and it makes a world of difference if you have the fx2 headlights. I was bummed out about the tint too but it was only like a 8 dollar investment, so.. Good idea on waiting, I wouldn't have done it this time of year but we got really good weather the other weekend so I did it. You're going to need it to warm up so everything dries good. Post some pictures up on this thread when you get it done..

Although I do like the way it looks on the other trucks with the chrome center still there, I couldn't resist painting the whole light. I think it adds a nice touch to the dsg color and gives it a meaner look. Thanks for the feedback guys. .
i have the round fogs, so i just went and bought blue bulbs for looks lol, call me cheap i dont care
if my truck was black or white i would have been all over this a while ago, looks real good..im wondering, due to the heat from the bulb, would the paint get heated or something? just curios, nice lookin lamps and then ruined somewhere down the line...
