I agree, plus the fact that its brass and sticking way out there waiting for something to come along and break/snap it off.

Piece of mind for me. I've had too many bad experiences with letting someone else do it. Plus, like noted earlier, it's fun to actually piddle with the few small things on my truck I still know how to work on. I'm sure that will all go away and you'll have to have some $2,000.00 machine to change your own oil before too long ?

I do it myself , just don't trust anyone with my truck. I even had a year of free oil changes thrown in when I bought it and never used them.

Because I can.

I don't really have a problem with my local Ford service, but I also don't like to waste time. If I didn't have a job (I don't schedule Saturdays because it's packed), then I could spend all day at the dealership, drink their coffee, look at the 2010's, and laugh at the pricing on the "Ford trinkets" at the parts desk...while they change the oil. Fact is, I hate having the wife drive over and pick me up while the truck is being serviced and drop me off again. As long as Wal-mart keeps stocking the Motorcraft lube products, I am happy with the price. Doing the change at my house, on my own time, is just down right convenient. Besides, I just got done building a two-stall shop for extra storage and a warm place for winter projects. Doing my own brakes, rotations, oil, shocks, and other routine maintainance justifies part of the shop. Lastly, I just enjoy light work on vehicles. Besides, aside from parts (oil / filter), isn't paying someone to change your oil a little like hiring an electrician to change a lightbulb?

I took my own oil, Mobil 1, to the dealer to have them change it. They kept the oil and left the dirty oil in there and just changed the filter. I will never let anyone change my oil.

Way too often lube guys are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. I have changed my own all my life and will probabley quit driving when I'm not able to change it any more... at about 105!

I use that saying all the time with a little twist.... "They're not the sharpest tools in the drawer but quite possibly the most dangerous!"
