who changes their own oil and why?

well i was at the local walmart yesterday waiting on my wifes med to get filled, so i wonder back to the auto section. i wanted to price oil and filter for my 08 Screw 5.4. well, motorcraft oil filter 820s is $3.67, 5w20 castrol synblend oil is $19 for a 5qt jug, and $4.68 per qt for the extra 2 qts i will need. total with tax comes to $34.27. now when i go to the dealer, my oil changes are $43 after tax and just about every other one i get the tires rotated and i get a $10 mail-in rebate.

so for the times i dont get a rebate, i pay someone $9 to change my oil and i dont have to worry about disposing of the used oil.

on the times i get the rebate, i even get the tires rotated and they end up paying me $1 after the rebate.

so i was just wondering, is there a chaper place to get oil and filter, or do u do it for piece of mind???

My dealer charges between $25 and $30, depending on what coupons they have going. I can't mess with it for that.

I just paid 2.99 for a quart of oil, 2.99 for tHe filter and 13 for the 5 quart at advance, 19 bucks, with my 10% off for having an acount, 17.10 plus tax, that's with motorcraft syn blend and a motorcraft filter

I do it myself because everytime I take my truck into the dealer for warranty work they damage something else. Two different dealerships now. Plus, I know it's done right. I would certainly never pay them to do work on my truck. Besides, I like working on my truck even if it's something simple.

I've got a mechanic I really trust, so when I have time I schedule an appointment with him. Works out a lot better because he rotates my tires and refills all my fluid levels free of charge. Not to mention he does some other basic maintenance checkups for no cost. Really nice guy and runs a legit business. If you have a mechanic like this it is, IMO, the way to go.

During the school year, though, school and work make it hard to find time to schedule something that fits both our schedules. I end up changing it myself most of the time during the school year. So more time restraints than anything.

Amazing! I change the oil in my wife's expedition once a year. Of course, it only has about 200 miles on it in a year.

I am the only one that changes my oil simply because I don't trust anyone else to do it, and I cann't justify paying someone else to do it when I have a place and tools.
