A 5qt jug of motorcraft syn blend in 5W-20 is 11.50 at wally world, add in the 2 extra qts. and the filter and it still comes out under 20 bucks. The instant oil change joints around here are charging 45-50 for a 5qt change using standard fossil based oil.

I have heard many horrible stories with "instant oil change" places... I just assume do it my self.

Yeah, I don't go to them either, I just mentioned them for a price comparison.

Just ask yourself "Do I trust a kid making 8 bucks an hour to install the oil filter and pan plug correctly?", and then go change it yourself.

I just bought my F150 a month ago from a friend. He had all of the service work (oil change, tires rotated, transmission serviced..etc) done at a reputable (big name) shop since the truck was new (he keep all of the records). I did an oil change yesterday (MC filter and syn oil) and noticed that the head of the pan plug was nearly rounded off (use of improper socket). I then went to change the air filter and noticed that the clamp came loose very easily, there was dust all up in the air intake tube all the way to the throttle body! Some $8 hr idiot had changed the filter and had not taken the time to make sure he had a tight seal when reapplying the clamp. This is why I do all of my own work (and I'm a mechanic).

Ive always changed my own oil since Ive been driving. Its not hard and not worth paying somebody to do.

I just changed it in the truck a few hours ago. It was at 3000 miles since the last change. I always have changed the oil every 3000 miles in everything Ive owned.

Motorcraft 5w20 Semi-synthetic oil- $12 (5 quart jug) + $3/quart (3 extra quarts)= $21
Supertech (walmart) oil filter- $3

Oil change- $24.

Exactly!! I will not let anyone else work on my truck unless absolutely necessary.

That's accurate. I changed oil in both my F-150 and Escape on Friday. I can change the oil faster on both than I can wait to have it changed on one. The cost for both is about the same as it is for one if I have it done. I also know everything is tight and the engine is not started with an empty filter.

To prevent the no oil pressure start up rattle, hold the throttle on the floor and crank the engine for about 8-10 seconds. This fills the filter and you don't have a rattle at start-up. The flooring of the fuel pedal cuts off the fuel supply and keeps the engine from starting. I do it on my 2 Fords and on my 08 Chevy Impala.

I change it myself because I do it faster and I know it was done right. These trucks are super easy to do. I am a big guy and I don't even need a jack to change the oil.

I also have two Fords, both use motorcraft 5w20. I just get the large jugs, no 1 quarts, and measure it the right way. Get it close, run the engine, shut it down then check again. Never over or under filled... You get really good at estimating after a couple changes.

I put the old oil in the back in the used motorcraft jugs, and take them to be recycled when I buy more oil.

Heh, i think it is more of a pain the *** to drive to the dealer and sit in the waiting room for an hour while a teenager half asses my vehicles.

Why did you only quote Castrol?

Motorcraft synthblend is less than $12 for a 5qt jug at Walmart.

Comes out to ~ $20 to do it yourself and rest assured some moron didn't forget something.

I do mine to save some cash, actually did it earlier today. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic from Walmart and that cost around 22 bucks for 5 guart jugs, which is all I buy, then another couple bucks for the Motorcraft filter means I pay right around 34 bucks for an oil change when I do it. If I went to a little quick oil change shop I would've spent around 85 for the same thing.

I do my own regardless, don't trust anyone and it's not hard to do.

8qts of Royal Purple 5w30 8.99 always get an extra qt
1 FL820S 3.99

A little over 70 bucks with tax yeah it's a bit extreme and expensive but this truck wasn't cheap either nothing but the best for my BLWNSCRW.
