IMO, unless you own a towing and recovery business, riding around with a clevis in your receiver hitch looks dumb.

I know becuase I did it almost all the way through high school. Until I realized how stupid it looked.

Thumbs up Want a Clevis

You should be able to find an adequate one at a dealer for farm tractors & implements like John Deere, Kubota, New Holland, etc. Failing that check a dealer for heavy equipment. I've seen them for sale in Home Depot or Lowes but am not sure of the quality. You can get them online at http://www.NorthernTool.com/ Search for: clevis . They list several sizes.

I suggest you get the largest size that will fit where you want to attach it. Bigger is stronger. I also would recommend getting one with a pin that screws into the loop. Those are a whole lot easier to use when your hands are cold and wet than the pins secured by clips or cotter keys.

When you get it don't drive around with it hanging from the hitch. Put a little oil on the pin threads, wrap in in a rag, put it in a bag and keep in a secure place in the cab. That way it's not all muddy, rusty and crappy when you need to use it.

I got the Warn model from a Tractor Supply over six years ago. Had it on my '97 and now it's on my '06. I've used it many times, so glad I got it.

I am planning on getting one as well. I did a search at Amazon, and Ebay for Reciever hitch shackle, and found several. Whatever you get, make sure it has a rating on it. Probably better off getting one from a reputable company.

yours appears to be around a 2in. one and on ebay they are anywhere between $50-100 but i would want around a 3in. one or bigger and they go for anywhere between $700- $1000. i found a 4in. one online somewhere it said the shackle weighed like 124lbs.

i wonder where all the big trucks that i've seen get theirs. i saw a huge f-250 on spring break and his looked to be about the size of a freakin toilet seat.

I got one at the local 4X4 shop in town... McHenry 4X4 if your in the area.

It's a Warn model and about 3 inches... Has worked out real well...

When needed. But for the most part it just looks cool.

I painted the D Ring RED with baer brake caliper paint and painted the rest of it with that rubber stuff you can dip the handles of your tools in. Plasta Dip...

Holds up real well!

no they measure them really weird. i think by 2in.s they are measuring how thick the metal that the ring is made out of is, i guess that would explain why a 4in. one weighs over a hundred pounds.

Go Somewhere that sells crane supplies. My friend that works in construction had one the size of a toilet seat asked me if I wanted it for my jeep and I laughed it was huge. It did weigh well over 100lbs
