Removing the blocks is a lot easier to do than installing shackles and cheaper. Get your self a set of 2wd u-bolts to replace the 4x4 bolts you have now, the threads are not long enough after the blocks come out, get the standard duty ones, the heavy duty won't fit.

I was told the lowering shackels would be easier than removing the block, but removing teh block was easy enough for me. I got a lot of good advise off of this site. Here is the thread.

What do i need for my 4x4 to sit like a 2wd

4x4 with rear blocks removed

If I was you I would go with shackles, I took my blocks out and it rode fine but if you haul anything or pull a trailor it doesn't feel so great. Just watch your pinion angles, I think taking the blocks out made my ujoints go bad....

If you pull the blocks and install shackles you will be lower in the back, you will need to lower the front also. My After pic is with just the rear blocks removed. This is with the blocks out, shackles installed, and the front lowered.

Are you running the heavy duty u-bolts, cause thats what I was talking about. If you are, did you upgrade to the heavy duty nuts also and the heavy duty u-bolt plate?

If you remove the block the back will sit at the height of a 2WD, and your truck will be leveled +-1/4" like my picture above. 2" lower shackes will put the rear about 1 3/4" lower than the front.

If you put 2WD shocks on the front you'll lower the front an inch, but your front will still be 3/4" higher than the rear.

That's what I like about this site. You get a picture of what it will look like with a few options and then you get to decide for yourself.

Have you decided on what shocks you'll go with?

I'm trying to figure out the purpose of lowering a 4x4. Towing purposes? MPG purposes? Seems like an awful waste of money to buy the FX4 edition, and then lower it.

There are several reasons to lower a 4x4, such as maybe the owner or their spouse is short and it's easier to get in, or the owner is older and is tired of having to climb in their truck, or just because it looks better.

Afterall 95% of all 4x4's are street queens anyway, so why dump 3 large or more on a lift and wheels and tires just for kicks, frankly thats just idiotic. I bought the FX4 model because I liked the interior better than the XLT, and you can't get a flow thru console in an XLT. In the end its my truck and I'll do what I want, when you start making the payments for me then you can tell what to do with it.
