My point about not understanding the lowering of a 4x4 was that my impression is that once you lower A 4x4 it's a lot less useable.
If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.

And Greencrew, that sucks about not being able to find the truck that you wanted. I was able to put navigation in my truck (for way too much money I might add) You could get one of the navs that stick on the windshield, but I know that isn't sexy.

Of course it's your truck, and I have no intention of making your payments. My question was not a personal attack. If it had been a personal attack it would have sounded a little more like this:
"What kind of moron would lower a 4x4?"
But I didn't say that, because I wasn't thinking that. Seems to me though, that's what you heard.
Well, I'm sorry if you think I was attacking you. I just get so tired of hearing the same old line "It's a 4x4 it's supposed to go up" and the BS that goes along with it.

My list of required options is long, so I was looking for a red loaded 4x2 Lariat, which I still have not seen around these parts. I was even considering driving down south to pick one up. I searched dealers inventory in St Louis and Phoenix.

In the end I had to take 4WD and the 20" wheels, and did not get the navigation I wanted. There are not many opportunities to go off road around here, so my truck is limited to a life as a street queen. The reason I spent the money to lower it is because of the pain in my back and hip, and I've had 0 pain since I lowered it.
I actually wanted a 4x4, but here in Cleveland about the only 2wd 150's are stripped down XL work trucks. If you want a nicely equipped 2wd, you either have to order it or go south to get one.

You mentioned you did not get the nav you wanted, does it have to be factory? I was browsing crutchfield today and they have the kenwood dnx 7120 for 699 and thats the one I have, but I paid more for it. It's a great unit, has a bigger screen than the factory, can play dvd's, can show a back up cam, etc. Any way it can do a lot more than the factory unit can.

.
At least for me, i need a 4x4 in the winter... i wont even make it out of the driveway with a 2wd and i have to goto work for snow removal. Ive always wanted a 'sport truck' but ive always had to get a 4x4 due do work.

I am in the process of lowering my truck to stock 2wd, then put a 2/3 drop on it just so i can get a sportier truck and still get to work in the snow

There is still a lot of clearance at 4x2 height because it's still a truck, and it will still pull through a lot of show. Maybe I dropped the clearance in front from 10" to 9". We don't get 10" of snow at one time every year, and when we do the snow plow clears the road before it accumulates that much. The only way I get a challenge is to run down the gravel driveway to the park because they don't plow that until the day after it snow.

4wd is very usable in the slush at any height, because the wheels track straighter with more all around stability. Point is, 4wd is still more usable than what I need here in the suburbs. It's not like I take this road to work:

This tread not about me asking why lower a 4x4 or is it, did I miss some thing? I though I posted some thing about removing 4x4 blocks. If you want a tread saying why lower 4x4 then start a new tread!

That is what I have now, the window unit, a Garmin. It does the job, I like the portability, and the Garmin is a much better navigator than the 06 - 08 stock navigation. It's just more work to put the unit in the truck, plug it in, turn it on, then remember to turn it off and put it away every day.

The 7120 is not a portable, it replaces the stock headunit.

My personal opinion is why bother buying a truck if it doesn't have 4wd. Thats the whole purpose of having a truck whether you jack it up or slam it down! BTW, I removed my rear blocks and put 22's on it. Looks great, handles great, and can still use the 4x4 in New England winters when needed.

the only problem i have with that statement is places in the south dont really need 4x4 during the winter. They can get away with having a 2wd.

I used to live in Savannah, where it floods in the summer! 4x4 was mighty helpful then. Plus going muddin and pulling out stuck 4x2s in the middle of nowhere Ft Stewart was fun times.

In any situation where traction is compramised, 4 wheel traction will always trump 2 wheel traction...so 4 wheel drive on demand is more practical.

Off the topic even further, trucks are made to haul things in the bed right?
So why would anyone intentionally put the bed higher and more out of reach and more difficult to put heavy things in?
Why buy a truck and make the bed harder to use is like asking why buy a 4X4 and lower it...

I have a set of 2wd U-bolts if anyone wants them? You only need to pay shipping, I do not need them for anything. I added stock 4x4 blocks to my 2wd. I suppose I was going for the complete opposite. I love the look of stock 4x4's over stock 2wd trucks.

Anyway, the blocks are off my 2008. They were on my truck for only one year. They are perfect without a spot of rust.
