Installed Wagner Pads, Rotors & Parking Brake pads on Rear

Just wanted to share some install items I noted today.

2004 F150 SC 5.4 FX4

Parts Stores
1. O'Reilly Auto Parts stocks Wagner but charge way to much for Rotors
2. Advanced Auto Parts don't stock Wagner but have the better price
3. RockAuto.com is the best I found online today (preferred if you have time)

I had to do my rear brakes today, so went to O'Reilly and they matched Advanced on the Rotors.

-Rotors (Rear) - Wagner Part BD126110, paid $78 x2 (O'Reilly wanted $91 x2 )

O'Reilly was better on Pads by a couple dollars, however, it is important to note that Wagner combined thier ThermoQuiets and Edge pads into one type of pad, ThermoQuiets with Edge. O'Reilly had old stock on hand, only the ThermoQuiets without the Edge technology. Had to go to Advanced Auto, then found myself wanting the Ceramics... fyi, the Semi-Met are just fine.

-Pads (Rear) - Wagner Part QC1012, paid $60 (ouch, $50 Semi-Met part MX1012)

Don't forget the caliper slides / slippers. I missed this the first time out. The O'Reilly staff I worked with didn't know what they were. I bought them at Advanced.

-USA Brake Brake Hardware Kit (Rear) - Disc Brake Hardware Kit - USA brand part 5675A, paid $12

I decided to replace the caliper bolts. My driver side rear Caliper decided to eat my Rotor. So I decided that I better get the bolts just in case. Turned out the OEM's were not seized. (May have been the slides) I changed them out anyhow. O'Reilly didn't have em... Advanced again.

-USA Brake Caliper Bolt/Pin - USA Brand part 5075A, paid $18

And, once I got into the job, I noticed the drivers side Parking Brake pad was chattered to death. I am sure that produced some vibration.... Note that O'Reilly carries Wagner in stock - so that is where I got em.

-Wagner Brake Pads/Shoes - Parking - Part PAB752, paid $50

Interesting enough, the Advanced rep did not know what High Temp Grease was... hmmm. Anyhow, I bought a tub of it at O'Reilly for $3 (why buy a little packet of stuff for $3 when you can have a tub of it...

-High Temp Grease - O'Reilly, paid $3

*I had a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston. Need at least a four inch.

Total $299

I figure their are enough posts on how to do this. But, I didn't see a list of stuff in those posts.

Hope this helps someone!

Great post, thanks! I haven't had to replace any pads on my F150 yet but used the TQ ceramics on the front of our 1988 Isuzu Trooper and they seem to work great. Used BrakeBest(O'Reilly Bros.) semi metallics on the rear mainly to save a few $$(80% of the braking is on the front, right?) with good results too. The BrakeBest pads are actually high quality looking pads compared to some "store brand" pads I've seen over the years.

A little off topic here but where did you get that front runner for your F150? Looks great!

Thanks, I will need to do this in the next year or so.

Hopefully because of this it won't take me as many trips as you made, which is usually how things go for me.

You didn't make a mistake going with the wagners.

Also side note nice guard up front.

The high temp grease is used on the caliper bolt slides. (not the bolt itself) There are lots of great posts on the site regarding how to do this.

Another item you want to make sure to do, when you have the back brakes apart, is clean the parking brake actuators (expander cams). Here is an excellent post on the subject. (Those of you with the dreaded inconsistent vibration issues want to make sure to read this)

Thanks for the comments on the WAAG Frontrunner. The place I purchased mine from was Truckcustomizers.com. I did a quick search; they are not currently selling it. I know that WAGG still makes it though, I purchased mine for $309.96 shipped.

Let me know that you think of those Wagners (brake dust). I can't stand the brake dust that the factory brakes kick out and I would like to replace them.

The TQ ceramics on the front of our '88 Trooper don't seem to produce any dust, hopefully will be the same for F150 application when I go with them.

OK, I installed fronts tonight. All parts ordered fit just fine.

I have noticed that my back wheels have remained brake dust free since the install. I am satisfied with the ceramics at this point.

Note: You will need a 6-inch c-clamp for this job

Excellent thread. When the rain quits drowning us here in North Texas, this is in the cards. Why did you chose Wagner over other brands?

Thanks. I constantly read about how great the Wagner pads are and figured I might as wll pair them up with their rotors. I am very happy with the results.
