Stolen, Joyridden, Abused, and Recovered
As someone else who has had their truck stolen, I can feel for what you went through and are going through. Hopefully they find who did it (the police lost interest in mine after it was recovered).
It's sad how much will be spent for a couple hours of someone's joy riding.

Wow that really sucks. I didn't think joyriders would be smart enough to get by the pats. Hope it all works out for you! Carfax probably won't ever show anything and they won't mark your truck as salvage.
I am in Salina, KS.. normally have zero issues where I live. This was the first in over 5 years on my street, or even in my area that made the news.
As for the method of theft.. they made it easy, they used the key. I had a separate police report filed 2 days earlier when my garage got broken into and they took my spare set of keys, ipod, various other things.
I was in the process of getting a new door cylinder and ignition stuff to re-key it when it was boosted. I am the idiot on that one. I should have taken out the battery, or done something.. but, I slacked on it, thought it would be safe where I parked it (between the house and garage) but nope...
So, I feel like the ultimate idiot... I hated knowing that a spare key to my truck was roaming around. I tried to even jam something in the door lock mechanism to make the key not work...and re-program the key fobs.. but, didn't stop anyone.
Needless to say, new locks are part of the insurance claim...and an alarm with starter kill will be the first mod done once its returned.

that sucks man.
I have never understood why people do that ****. I have had to work for everything I have. Never gotten a decent freebie.
And then to have a punk *** kid come and ruin something nice...just because.
Luckily I live on Base nowadays. Back in the day I used to carry a loaded 12 guage with slugs by the front door. But that was in Texas where it was legal to shoot first and ask questions later.
best of luck with the repairs. Hope they her back good as new

wow i leave the keys in my truck everywhere i go. i guess living in a small town will do that to you. every time i go to the city i leave my keys in on accident, looks like i better start paying more attention.
I used to leave mine in for quick stops, getting gas, etc. Not anymore. Had a buddy that stopped off for a coffee fill up one morning. Walked out of the gas station to hear some screeching of tires and realized it was his truck doing the screeching. They found it about a week later stripped. He now has a brand new salvaged title truck.
X2. I live in Texas and I was so glad when Texas passed the Castle Law, which basically gave us the right to carry a loaded weapon in our vehicle at anytime as long as it was not in plain site. I.E. glovebox, console, underseat. I keep my pistol in my console with me all the time and plan on getting my Conceled Handgun License.
wow man thats terrible... I lock my key's in the truck all the time.. I have the keypad so I dont even think about it...
Is your insurance going to pay for a rental for the duration of the truck being fixed?
And I dont really know to much about insurance... but what if after 90+ days or whatever something unexpectedly breaks down... can this be traced back and paid for?

same thing happened to the wifes Edge here in north texas. noticed the spare key was gone on a saturday nite, didnt think anything of it, weather was terrible on saturday nite, walked outside monday morning to go to work, and poof, it was gone, called and filed a report, drove around town and found it myself in 2 and a half hours, no damage luckily, they just drove about 125 miles and smoked pot in it. on a good note, insurance paid for new fobs and a key hole, and two new headsets for the dvd player, which they didnt even try to get out. plus they reimbursed me fully for the cost of my ipod, ive had for 4 years, and they gave me full refund that was on the reciept. good luck with yours, hope it all turns out ok, and dont beat urself up about the key issue, just some punks who need to be taught right from wrong
