Nah it won't be branded salvage. No worries there. Do be picky and make sure the truck is perfect. How did they get it started? PATS should have stopped them. Only pros can usually bypass that!

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, I have been tearing myself up inside over the condition of the truck when it gets fixed.. I am always SUPER leery of taking something back after a wreck, because it wont be the same ever again....not to mention the salvage title/carfax showing this now. Ah well, I planned on keeping it for quite a while, so the trade value isn't a huge thing. This will be my first experience with a major repair, but, the shop its at is a good guy, and a friend of the family, so I will keep my fingers crossed.

I am happy about the fact that State Farm insurance allows for all OEM Ford replacement parts, not aftermarket or cheap knock offs. Should be as good or better (looking). I will be giving it a very thorough exam too for internal engine/tranny/t-case damage. My lingering issue of something being damaged inside that wouldn't surface right away will eat at me for a while.

As for the douche, or douches that did it.. rest assured that this guy wont be letting this go anytime soon. I'll give the police a chance to do their thing, so maybe I can get some money out of them in civil court (providing they are found/arrested/etc)... But, after that, well.. that's probably a subject for another post somewhere.

Would hate to implicate myself in what will ultimately be a case of aggravated assault. haha.

Cheers guys

I hate that some people have the nerve to take something that somebody else worked hard for and cares for and just destroys it for fun. Thats just effing pathetic. Looks like they really roughed it up. Hopefully it turns out okay and she still runs alright after all is said and done.

How did they bypass the PATS? Do you have a remote start or a hidden key that is too close to the ignition?

I am in Salina, KS.. normally have zero issues where I live. This was the first in over 5 years on my street, or even in my area that made the news.

As for the method of theft.. they made it easy, they used the key. I had a separate police report filed 2 days earlier when my garage got broken into and they took my spare set of keys, ipod, various other things.

I was in the process of getting a new door cylinder and ignition stuff to re-key it when it was boosted. I am the idiot on that one. I should have taken out the battery, or done something.. but, I slacked on it, thought it would be safe where I parked it (between the house and garage) but nope...

So, I feel like the ultimate idiot... I hated knowing that a spare key to my truck was roaming around. I tried to even jam something in the door lock mechanism to make the key not work...and re-program the key fobs.. but, didn't stop anyone.

Needless to say, new locks are part of the insurance claim...and an alarm with starter kill will be the first mod done once its returned.

Don't blame yourself. NO ONE has the right to steal your property, regardless of whether it is unlocked or not. Even if you leave the keys in it. You could leave the truck in a crowded lot with the keys in it and running with the doors unlocked and put a big sign on it saying free truck and they would still be at fault if they stole it.

Damn that sucks.
So this was no random act. If your keys were stolen 2 days earlier then the scum bags were just waiting for the right time to grab it.
I'm with cherokee2871 read up on the CIA techniques.
