Black plastic/rubber fading

Is it just me or does anybody else have trouble with the black plastic trim and rubber moldings fading to a dull grayish black? Ive also got black plastic factory running boards with the same issue.

What can I do to keep them black and looking good?

Ive used Mother's Back To Black and it works but only for a little while. It seems to leave streaks on the rubber window moldings though.

Yea.......that bends me outta shape, too!

I think FORD went EL CHEAPO on that stuff, and that was a BIG mistake considering those are obvious parts that everybody sees.......

And my black running boards made by WESTIN have faded a lot......to the point that I'm going to take them off!

im not sure about the rubber mouldings

but for the plastic trim pieces , go out and buy a can of krylon fusion , this will last the longest and look the best

Just repaint it, theres some stuff called trim restore or whatever, but it leaves it somewhat slippery, just pop it all off or tape it off and paint it.

My Father-in-law owns a body shop and I have seen him paint them before. I think there is something you have to add to the paint to make it stick and also make it flexable.

I have also heard that Armour All makes it worse.

Im certainly not a painter so I dont really want to paint stuff like the door handles and running boards.

I havent Armoralled the trim but maybe the previous owner did.

I treat all my black plastic and running boards with Turtlewax ICE when I am waxing the truck. It turns the plastic back to black and shiny.

Use Back to Black. It's temporary but the best I've found out there. It's a semi-clear gel that really does work.

Not a permanent solution but this stuff does a pretty good job all the way around:

I like it better than back to black. Rub it on the rubber trim or use 303 aerospace http://www.303products.com/

The detailing section could help. I have B to B for some stuff, but I guess black wow works well. Also, Ice is good for that trim stuff as mentioned. That's what I use for my moldings.

Mothers back to black is a joke, it sucks. BlackWow is the only product I believe is worth investing time into cleaning trim, but re-painting it is the absolute best option. It lasts longer and wont leave run marks.

Well after 7 days, Mothers Back to Black is still looking good for me. Granted it did run a little bit, but it is far better than Turtle Wax Ice.
