Hey guys looking at changing my oil for the first time since I've had my truck in a few miles and have always run full synthetic and was wondering if the was a really good one that I should be running

 

I had been using the motorcraft synthetic blend since I bought my truck. I just changed it last week though and switched to the motorcraft full synthetic and I am going to stick with it. You can get it at advance auto parts.

 

I have been running the synthetic blend motorcraft as well. Have no complaints and it is reasonably priced.

 

no special reason but i have been running the pennzoil platnum for a loooong time and it always has treated me good

 

Just stay away from mobil 1

I've heard these modular engines don't like mobil 1

 

If you have some specific information on why Mobil 1 would be bad for our engines I would like to hear it.

Frankly, I would be amazed if the synthetic oil used in Porsche, Aston, Merc AMG, Vipers, Nissan GT-R and a bunch of other modern engines would be somehow bad for ours. But if that is the case, I sure would like to know.

 

I switched to MotorCraft Full Synthetic that I picked up at Advance Auto for $5.29 a quart!.....Dealer gets $7+ for this stuff!............

 

I'd like to hear it also. All I have ever run was Mobil1 whether it was my 750hp Cobra or my FX4. It has always been the best.

 

I don't have any specific info, just rumors I've heard.

 

People spend too much time thinking about oil. All the synthetics out there are good and will work well in Ford engines, just go with whatever brand is your preference. After shelling out the $$$ on the synthetic stuff don't scrimp on the filter. You'll probably run the oil for 7 or 8000 miles, get a filter that's up to the task.

 

No problem's with Mobil 1 so far!

 

I run Amsoil in my truck. Been great so far. A bit on the expensive side, but I spoil my truck like a child.

 

I'm a big fan of Valvoline...either full synthetic or the durablend. You can get 5 quarts of the durablend at Wal-mart for around $15.00 and then pick up two extra quarts (provided you have a 5.4L).

Interesting note...I went to Wal-mart a few weeks ago to buy an air filter for my wife's '08 Mustang. I have not memorized the part number yet and I was stumped when I was in the air filter section. They didn't have a book out to look up the part. I wonder if they are having a sales slump in air filters? lol

 

Ive run only redline 5w20 full sythetic, im at 80k miles starts like brand new, and since I have efans, I cant hear my engine at idle (magnaflow and AF1 intake changes that at throttle though) I get it at 7 bucks a quart when i buy a case of 12. The motorcraft fl820s filter is our best option (and pretty decent). The Mobil 1 filter has issues with startup rattles, meaning there is something blah blah oil starvation blah blah on startup.

When i was researching synthetics for the exact purpose (my f150) I came across an analysis of all oils, redline is ester based (?whatev) and the rest are not, the only real synthetics are redline, amsoil, mobil1 and royal purple. Redline had the highest Moly parts, for better protection.

Interestingly enough the MC regular and synblends had a very high moly count, and the researcher specifically mentioned that MC natural and synblend oils are extremely high performing.

mobil 1 was mentioned as a true synthetic, high performance oil.. but heres the thing, if i remember correctly, mobil 1's HT something temperture was not much higher than regular oil and lower then some of the better conventional oil. redline and amsoil came out on top with redline as the best.... hence the 7-12 dollars per quart price

 

amsoil there is nothing better in my opinion
