Accleration while braking.

OK so here is a problem: Occasionally the truck will accelerate by itself. The first time it happened at the dealership and the service tech almost ramed a couple brand new F-250s.

They couldn't find anything wrong with it at the time, and their answer to the problem if it happens again was to hit the brakes and put it in park. This was about a year ago and unfortunately i didn't get it in writing that they would cover the damages done to my truck and other property.

The problem just manifested itself again my driveway just a little while ago. Can you think of any reasons that it would do this? The truck completely overpowers the brakes the rpms spike and the truck goes in which ever direction the transmission is shifted in.

This isn't an issue that i can reproduce on demand for the dealer and certainly if this happens on the highway its not going to be a pretty sight.

Thanks yall!

It is, throttle by wire i believe. If it were a mechanical problem it would probably just be a sticky throttle body cable and that would be that, but this is an issue where its not that the gas pedal is sticking, but rather the truck is accelerating through the brakes if thats even possible or the computer is telling the truck to accelerate without input from the gas pedal.

Have you checked for shorts? Chewed wires? Anything like that?

Do you have an aftermarket floor mat in there that slides around a bit? Sometimes they ride up too high and can affect the sensor.

No, that's the odd thing i had my feet firmly on the brakes and only on the brakes. I was just moving my truck up the driveway, i mean this same thing happened to a service tech as well who drives im sure plenty of trucks each day.

The brakes wont hold the truck when it decides to do this and its sure going to suck if it does this on the highway. Well its going back to the dealership on Monday for this again.

I had this happen to me, often at stoplights. As soon as i'd brake it would surge forward. Scary. I cleaned the throttle body, changed the TPS sensor (30 bucks or so), and had my PCM flashed by my Edge Evolution with help from a technician over the phone in order for the PCM to recognize the new type of TPS sensor they have out (looks the same, but chipset is different).

Josiah Edge can do that with out the dealer flashing for the newer model sensor? I thought the dealer had to do the flash.

Sounds like a PCM reflash?

From a legal aspect, I would actually have an attorney contact the TECHNICIAN who had it happen to him. This way you are covered, if the dealer will not allow it, I would have the attorney press for a signed affidavit from the technician. If not, the he said she said crap will override everything and be dismissed as heresay.

Ive heard of this from a few other people. I think I even remember seeing someone post an article from a news channel that did a story on the problem when it happened to someone.

If it ever happens its second nature to hit the brakes...but just try to remember to just turn the key off...much more effective then slamming the brakes when the engine is in gear and running 5000 RPM. Remember you wont have power steering or power brakes though.

I dont know if I have seen anyone figure out exactley what the problem is. Obviously something with that POS drive by wire throttle, but exactley what who knows.

I hear ya there! I wear size 13 boots....needless to say Ive got ahold of the brake and gas at the same time once or five times. I was so used to my 99...the gas and brake must be closer together in the new body style trucks.

maybe it's an electrical fault...but more likely human error

this is gonna sound ****-ish...but I'm gonna say it anyways

you have 4 wheel disc brakes. They are massive in the rear, and about 1" smaller in the front...I want to say they're 13" and 12" rotors

either way, there is no way in hell your motor will overpower the brakes. trust me. You may spin your rear tires, but the front brakes can and will stop the truck.

hell, I've got 100+ HP more than you do. My brakes easily stop my truck...and if from a standstill, the truck never moves. the rears will sit and roast away...but no forward movement

I think this is more likely

and I've also seen lots of posts about others hitting the throttle as well

the super dutys are the same way. one of my coworkers took out the rear window of his 250 hooking up to a gooseneck.

i hit both the brake and gas a few times too. i was used to an 89 f150...
