2008 vs 2009

ok.. I'm sure there's been plenty of debate on the new 2009 F-150.. but how many of you would actually prefer the 09 F-150 over your current truck? Comparing apples to apples, I'd still choose my 2008, all things considered.. Here's my seemingly biased comparison of the two trucks.

Exterior : 2008 wins, with the the better front and rear end styling. How bout the new ugly decals? Other than that.. they are extremely similar, no complaints elsewhere..

Interior: 2008 wins, Personally I think less is more.. and with all of the ***** and junk on the dash with the 2009, it leaves little to be desired. About the only thing I've heard about the 2009 interior as being superior to the later models is the comfy seats.. but honestly, I sat in 2009 FX4 this weekend, and there is little to no difference IMO considering I have a 2008.. obviously, if you own a 2004 F-150 your seats are going to be worn down by now.. ever wonder why your pillow isn't as fluffy and soft as when you first bought it? The headrests were kinda funky in the 2009, and why no grab handle?

Performance/Functionality: 2009 wins, while there was very little "power" increase, it's obvious that the new 6 speed is definately going to improve towing and shifting. There were many other minor upgrades across the bar as well, but it's obvious that this truck performs better than our 2004-2008 trucks.

Reliabilty: 2008 wins, lol.. I'm prolly get bashed on this one.. but hear me out.. I've never been a fan of first year vehicles, look at the Tundra.. but seriously, there are obviously a few minor issues with the 2004-2008 models, but I figure by 2008, Ford had gotten most of the bugs out..

Pricing: 2008 wins! lol.. You can't be the deals out there on these trucks.. I bought my FX4 supercrew back in March for $28k with $10k off.. With rebates and incentives selling the 08 models for up to $15k off around here, it's hard to beat. In all honesty.. you're not going to be able to deal down just about dealership on these new 09s.. you'll be lucky to even get a couple hundred off, even if that. Would you rather have a lifted, suped up, 2008 F-150.. or a stock 2009?

In conclusion, it's hard for me to see enough reason to want to buy a 2009 F-150 unless you're completely convinced that there are enough upgrades in those trucks to spend an extra $10-15k.. Personally, I wasn't led to buy an F-150 due to blind brand loyalty, but instead of the awesome pricing and styling. Heck, I would have bought a Chevy, Dodge, or even a Toyota if they looked half as good as the F-150 and were equally priced.. As far as performance.. The 5.4L is plenty enough for me.. with talks of the upcoming 6.2L boss, that would obviously be overkill for my needs.. heck I was fine with my 140hp Honda Civic.. lol

Now all is not lost, I do give props to Rize for kinda rescuing the day.. is that a blacked out 2009 F-150 I see?! lol..

i personally hate the look of the new 09's. the interior is nice but visually i think they suck....the tailgate just bugs me. ford still dont put a big enough motor in these trucks...next truck gmc sierra max 380 hp and an awesome seats, not the lumber seats in the current trucks....

Having driven both, the 2009 gets my nod. Now, if each member will send me a dollar, I'll have a 2009, fully loaded KR, in a jiffy.

I like the '09's because they come in a true regular cab configuration, and I am a committed regular cab guy.

However, the drawback is you can't get the '09 regular cab-short box configuration (the classic street truck combo) with the 5.4 engine, which would be a deal-killer for me.

So in the end I guess I'm glad I have my '05 regular cab short box XLT with the 5.4 engine.......

Zeruin I want your truck, my dream truck right there Well atleast i'm getting the headlamps it had

I like the 2009s, but, I would still prefer the 04 - 08 version. For one, I paid mine off, and i'm used to it now. But what I would love to have about the '09 is the interior, and 6spd tranny & tougher 5.4.

If you looking for a truck (don't own one) the 09 would be hard to beat. I will say that the 09 is a better truck than the 04-08 trucks and think it looks great (still hate the taillights), but just not worth the upgrade if you already own a 04-08, unless you are simply in the market/mood for something new. Also, check out the "The New vs Refresh Debate" in the 09 section, quite hilarious

did you just start this thread so you can post more pictures of your own truck?

Of course guys like you who just bought a new truck are going to say going that you would prefer yours over the 09. 97-03 owners said the same things when the 04's came out.

To comment about the looks/styling is 100% personal opinion or preference. Yes the bed stickers are ugly but I didn't care for them that much on my 04 so I took them off.

But those of us with older trucks are most likely looking forward to the new truck. My truck will be 5 years old in about 5 months. I've been ready for a change for awhile now, but I saw no point in buying a new 07 or 08 like some 04 owners have because it's the exact same truck. But to buy a new 09 would be quite a difference. See my point?

Me personally, I'm waiting for '10 for the Ecoboost motor to come out.

The 09 will probable be like the 97 and 04 were for me it took some time for them to grow on me before I liked them. I started seeing them around town more and more and then before I knew it I started liking them more. In fact after a couple years after the 97 came out I switched from a Mustang guy to a F150 guy. I always had a thing for the F series but never thought of owning one until 9 years ago when I bought my 2000.

I was talking about this with a guy who was looking at buying an f150 earlier today so Ironic you posted this. Right now I would get a 08 f150 rather than the 09's mainly because of the fact dealers are almost giving them away.

lol.. okay maybe I am a picture *****..

Obviously, anyone that just bought a 2008 (like myself) would attempt to rationalize their decision in buying a seemingly "dated" truck over the new 2009s. But honestly, there isn't much to rationalize... the new 2009 is obviously the better performing truck.. but is it worth the extra $15,000? Sure, most of my peeves with the new 2009 are merely cosmetic, and easily fixed.. just get rid of the decals, swap out the lights for some Raptor lights, and you might actually have me convinced.. but still.. I couldn't "rationalize" the decision to spend a $10-15k premium over a 2008 model.. but in my opinion.. dollar for dollar, the 2008 is still better.. here's a comparison.. which would you honestly choose?

(warning - photo whoring commencing)

1. My 2008 F-150 FX4, $28k + $7k mods.. = $35k total

2. Stock 2009 F-150 FX4, $39k (compareably equipped to my stock F-150)

3. Rize 8" F-150 FX4 $39k + atleast $10k mods = $49k total

Now, comparing the Rize to mine isn't exactly apples to apples.. but even when they come out with compareable 6" lifts, you'll definately be hard-pressed to find aftermarket parts as deeply discounted and having as huge of a variety of selections like the 2008.. Heck with all that extra cash saved, you could invest in a plethora of aweome mods for a 2008 F-150 any way you want it.. Throw in a supercharger, a banging sound system, lift it up, or even drop it low, and the 2008 will still come out cheaper than any stock 2009.. call it "rationalizing" all you want.. I simply call it common sense.. lol
