Congrats on the Rabbit. Make sure you dump it before the warranty runs out. Even with warranty, the techs don't know how to fix'em anyway

In all honesty, the 08 VW Rabbit is a nice little car for its price. However, if I were going to buy a vehicle from VW, the only car that I would be interested in is the GLI. My friend has a GLI with the 6-speed DSG tranny and that car is probably the best shifting car that I’ve ever driven. It’s so effortless and smooth. I’ve been a fan of direct-shift gearboxes for some time now. I think Ford is making a smart move in investing money to develop and implement dual-clutch transmissions for future vehicles. Can you imagine a 2012+ Mustang with the twin-turbo ecoboost engine, a fully independent/multi-link suspension, and a 6-speed dual clutch tranny? I’ll buy one…

Congrats on the new VW. I had a blast in my 1.8t Golf and now wish I'd had kept it. Now go and join VWVortex and find out how to get more fun out of your new vdub.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm not saying I'll never own a truck again... just at this point in my life this was the right decision for me! I can actually see paying this off in pretty short order and picking up a nice clean F-150. Oh and BTW she didn't have any DIRECT influence over this decision. I had been looking for a car since before she came along!

x2. Even when little stuff goes, they're expensive to fix and can be electrical nightmares. Even with the warranty, make sure there are no signs of 'outside influence' or it won't get covered. I think that was the most frustrating part about working at a VW dealer. It was almost like VW wanted us to find reasons NOT to fix the car under warranty instead of doing the right thing and just fixing the problem.

I can't really flame you for buying the Rabbit, tho. It's because of something like that I was able to get my truck. A guy traded in my Screw and a Mach 1 Mustang on a Jetta and Rabbit when gas prices were starting to go crazy. Enjoy the Dub....they are fun to drive especially if you got the 5speed

Might have regrets later on down the road when you need to haul something. After buying my house There is no way I could go without a truck.
Kudos on the MPG though....
