Try 255/70/17. Makes a big difference.

I have BFG Long Trail T/A's on mine, they are available in your size. They are worlds better than the crap Generals that came on my truck, ride well, are quiet, and are wearing very well. They are all-season rated highway tires, handle well in bad weather. They are also reasonably priced. Sam's Club carries them, they are about $138 each in your size.

I'm only getting about 35-40K miles per set on Long Trail T/As, and that sucks IMO. Take a look at some Michelins.

I've got 40k on mine and they have at least half the tread left.

Also take a look at the Cooper Discoverer HT for highway use and snow, or ATR's for all terrain use. They are 60,000 mile tires and ride great. If you tow a TT regularly, I would suggest at least going to an LT rated tire. C load range would be ideal. The stockers can't handle much weight.

A good tire also is the BFG all-terrain, long wearing, good in the snow, and LT rated for towing trailers. Almost no noise on the highway either.

Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Great in snow, quiet on the highway, decent in mud, and they don't drain your wallet.

One of the better tires I ever had on an F-150 was the Yokohama Geolanders. Outstanding performance in rain and snow. Good on the highway and capable off road. They're kind of a "sleeper" on the tire market, so prices are still low. Well, they're not $40 anymore, but still inexpensive. Last time I checked, they were still in the top 5 truck tires on Tirerack.

I'll put in another vote for the BFG's All Terrain TA's.

My second choice is Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's. Very nice tire, just be sure to get the Revo and not the standard AT.

As far as the Goodyear tires. I've had 2 sets on F150's (whatever they come with) and thought both were trash after about 35-40K. Both sets were worthless in snow and ice after a little wear. They still looked decent, just didn't get the job done. IMO there are much better tires for the same amount of money.

If the truck came with P-metric tires, they are sufficient for towing and loads up to the rated max for the vehicle. All LT's will do is increase the load rating of the tires and nothing else. They may ride harder and reduce gas mileage. More aggressive tread (i.e. all terrains) will also reduce gas mileage and increase noise.

P rated tires suck on trucks. the only benefit of them is the softer ride.

try towing with a P rated tire...I'll bet you don't come back saying they are "sufficient for towing and loads up to the rated max"...LT tires FTW

and a good LT tire will not affect gas mileage
