Another Mobil-1 5w-20 advocate here, I switched at 3K miles, first change & immediately noticed a quieter engine.....MotorCraft 820-s filter, at 16K miles, engine runs better than ever!......

Well I'm gonna get flamed but good for this but I just recently switched over from Mobil 1 5W20 to Mobli 1 10W30 high mileage oil. My truck has 31k miles on it and it flat loves the thicker oil. All the annoying little lifter/cam phaser ticking is gone and it feels much smoother. So far have noticed no difference in MPG. Oh and I use the Motorcraft oil filters.

I've been considering switching to a heavier oil as well. The 5W20 just seems too soupy, regardless of what Ford says. I've noticed that when I start my truck on a cold morning the engine is much quieter and seems to idle smoother. Once it warms up and the oil thins out all the knocks, ticks and rattles come back. I was thinking about using a 5W30 or even a 5W40, but I just might try a 10W30 now that I've read of someone else doing it.

Try a full synthetic, and go longer between changes.

redline 5w-20 every 5000 miles since the first change, MC fl-820s filter, cause it has the ADB valve and our filters need that plus its really a purolator premium or pro, not a bad filter at all even by a lab test that i read about... im at 65k and no problems at all, starts and runs smooth as if off the lot (crosses fingers, knocks on wood)

btw redline is like 9 bucks a quart

FL-820S and Motorcraft 5W20.

Thicker oils than what's recommended may affect cam phaser operation.
